James Toney should retire. I don't care how much he's slimmed, he's going to get seriously hurt. Hopkins should follow suit soon.

Hopkins pulled out of the Toney fight in 2003 for the same reason he pulled out of so many fights back then - Don King & money. It's the same reason why he never wanted to sign on with King in the first place. De La Hoya couldn't have swooped in at a better time. That said, I don't think he would've beat that version of James. No way.

Toney was special its heart breaking that he threw away so most of his career. After Jones he went into the wilderness for about 8 years and after Holyfield he threw away the next 5 plus years. He does need to retire his slurring his words badly, to many gym wars and the second fight with Peter didnt help either.

Yeah it is sad. And in spite of that, he's still a HOF'er. I always thought Toney had more skills than Hopkins, Jones, etc. Just can't understand how he wasted so much of it. To watch him at 160 - and even against Jirov - was breathtaking.

The Toney fights which I watch on a regular basis are:Barkley, Washington, Jirov, Holyfield, McCallum I and my fav Robinson. The guy is a boxing wiizard. I read in the Dark Trade that eating was his way of coping with problems. I know he had a lot of problems with the mother of his daughter Jasmine.
I agree he had more skills that Hopkins and Jones, Jones had more athletic talent and Hopkins had more mental focus.
