I think the size and longer reach of Johnson - to go with the constant leaning back gave him a lot of problems. This translated to him not commiting to punches and his handspeed looking slow. Several times he punched from too close and had no leverage even for his arm punches... and this is just the first couple rounds.
I don't see Haye fighting like this... it's just not his style, so I don't think it really has bearing on a potential fight between them. Not saying he can't outbox Vitali at all, but I think all the claims earlier were a bit misleading.
