Did Pavlik ruined Jermain Taylor's career?!

I mean Taylor is still young (31 y/o) to be considered a totally shot fighter. I remember him beating good to great fighters during his early years. Then he got a fight with Kelly. I mean Jermain almost beat Pavlik via early KO in that fight. And then the unfortunate happened when he was knocked out cold in return in the 7th. I think after that fight, Jermain's mental and especially physical state wasn't the same. He lost tremendous confidence and punch resistance after the Pavlik fight. Ever notice him all of a sudden becoming just an ordinary fighter after that. Every fight thereafter just on a downward spiral...

This is a pretty fair assessment. But why did Pavlik not perform up to standards in their rematch? Maybe Pavlik didn't get motivated for it.

Jermain Taylor could have beat Pavlik on both occasions, he just gassed out too quick...

I don't think his career was ruined, ever since the B-Hop fight Jermain has fought nothing but Champions or Former Champions...

He has had one of the strongest resume's of recent years. Never easy to be consistent against world class operators. He never had it easy since becoming MW champ.

I think the Pavlik losses took much out of him mentally, as he still had something in the Froch fight. It's just that his stamina problem once again kicked in. Knock-out after knockout obviously doesn't help.

Like i said, the Pavlik fights took his mental side out of his fight rather then his physical state.

I think so,pavlik was the beginning of the end for Taylor!!Then came the wiley vet B-hop,who was a major underdog & in turn, ruined his career!!

yeah i do agree with this for the most part but i think part of it is also physical.

the thing is i don't understand why i am asking questions of taylors physical capabilites because i shouldn't be. he is still very quick, hits reasonably hard, has good athletic capabilites and is only entering what should be his peak years.

but i do think that if you scratch below the surface you do end up asking questions of the physical side to JT as well - why has the move up to SMW not worked? JT seems like a much smaller fighter than AA, froch, dirrell or kess.

but i do think since the two Nard fights, the winky fight and the two fights against spinks and ouma taylor should have been told to take it easy against some low level comp (lacy and bika would have been perfect for him) instead he was thrown in there against a younger, undefeated, bigger, stronger and hungrier fighter.

taylor never fought a real puncher until he got in the ring with pavlik, that's why taylor's management had him fighting all these blown up welterweights and junior middles. they knew their boy is a great athlete but didn't have much of a chin. pavlik didn't ruin taylor's career, he just exposed him, and froch took advantage also
