  • WTF up with the contender 5 round sissy bouts?!

Ok I know 5 round boxing is good for tv since it keeps the fighters active and the rounds busy with plenty of good hits for close up drama, but really....are these guys supposed to be anything but amateurs?

I read some threads where some of you think the contender is good for boxing for exposure but whoever wins is going to get his ass beat down in a real fight to 12. If I was the winner, I'd take the million and retire!

I'd rather see stallone and sugar get in the ring and watch sugar beat his ass.

5 rounds are sisy bouts. Hell, there is more action in these bouts than in many heavyweight 10 round fights. Anyway, could you finish a 5 round bout with a professional fighter?...........Rockin'

This isn't about me since I'm not on the contender show. These guys are supposedly professionals...case in the point last week's episode with juan dropping out and everyone saying he fought like an amateur, etc. Even sugar refers to these guys as pros and yet here they are fighting 5 min bouts. Thats butterbean territory for fat ass super heavies.

They already cut/edit the bouts for tv, they can do the same with 10~12 rds as well. THE contender who wins this thing is going to get title shots from the exposure and celebrity, too bad he's going to get slaughtered by the real pros.

            Why?!!

Honestly dude, you're not making sense here.
The fact that they're fighting 5 x 3 min. bouts has absolutely NOTHING to do with how they'll do once they fight outside of the show's format. Infact, the vast majority of the contestants have already fought in 10 - 12 rounds contests before being picked for the show. Jesse Brinkley, Peter Manfredo,Anthony Bonsante, Ishe Smith, Salamci, Lange, Farza... hell, Johnathan Reid for William Joppy for a world title. These guys ARE "real pros", they're not begining clubfighters.

These fighters are real pros...calm down and listen to every word I tell you.

Many of these fighters ( I believe most of them) have fought ten rounds and been very successful doing so. When you watch a ten round fight you will notice that the fighters more often than not come out at a measured pace, say it with me again "measured pace"

In the contender it is a whole different world, they are fighting for a million bucks and they have only five rounds to get their work in before the cards come down. All of the fights have been fought at a ferocious pace and this is a direct result of the 1)rounds and 2) money.

These are professionals i promise you...keep in mind that I know everything!

One thing I hate about the show is they throw up all of the time...*you think he can last the whole 5* when majority of these guys are fighting 8 rounds as a minimum....I realize it is to make the show more intriguing but it is just annoying...Sly acts like he doesnt know ****....Possibly True?

                I still like the show.

guys have fought each other and all have at least 2 pro bouts
                  on thier record.

its been a weird setup so far with manfredo coming back
