Comments Thread For: Weights: Malignaggi-Diaz, Ortiz-Diaz are On Point

The weights are in for tomorrow's doubleheader at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. Paulie Malignaggi and Juan Diaz appeared to have no problems making the catch-weight of 139-pounds for their anticipated rematch. Malignaggi stepped on the scales and came in at 138.6, and Diaz came in at 138.4. [Click Here To Read More]

Why cant Diaz fight at 140? Theyr going to rehydrate over that so whats the big deal? I dont get it. Frickin catchweights.

They want paulie to sweat off that extra pound. Paulie can make 140 of course but its a little tougher to go past that.

I'm not surprised, however. Even with his youth, he's always looked bulky enough to make 147. It'd be cool if he could cover both divisions, but there's way more action at 140 right now (too many money fights locked up at 147).

Catch weights... this **** seems to be the topic of every fight that's made lately. It's like negotiators just discovered a new toy they wanna play with in signing contracts.

Well I think the reason Ortiz is fighting at 144 is because it's just a return fight. It's not for a title or anything, so they figured, why dry him out? I'm sure he can still make 140, but since it's a non-title fight, he's just going to fight at 144. Plus Diaz is a welterweight and hasn't been under 144 in a long time.
