    Classic Holyfield on ESPN Classic

Did anybody else happen to catch the Holyfield-Qawi replay on ESPN Classic last night? Turned out to be a great fight...I realize it was only Evanders 12th pro fight, but the commentators seemed extremely biased towards Qawi the entire fight. They really started to get on my nerves with it too. To listen to them for atleast the first 8 rd's you'd think that Qawi was spanking Evander (I think not!) and that Evander had bitten off too much, too soon All the while, it was Qawi that kept coming in with his head for the ENTIRE fight (no headbutts was a pure miracle!) and repeatedly hit below the belt, while the ref. looked ******ly on and never did a thing about it. Other than all that, it was bittersweet watching the man back in his day (why did I start an entire thread about this?? I dont know..I guess cause I could )

I didn't see it but I like the way ESPN is putting on more of a variety of classic fights latley. Its gets boring when they just show Ali-Frazier and Ali-Foreman.

Oh man, dont I know it! Tonight they are showing Arguello-Pryor and Leonard-Hearns...then tomorrow it's Holyfield-Moorer..so thats all good too! Oh, I just remembered, if you missed it last night, then you also missed Pernell Whitaker-Buddy McGirt. It was strange watching a skinny Buddy box! Very different than he looks today

That Holy-Qawi fight was terrific. I had never seen it before and thought it was great. I was not scoring it but it looked very close and Qawi seemed to be much stronger than Evander.

The Whitaker-McGirt fight was not that good to me. I thought both fighters were elusive and that's why they were missing a lot of punches. Also, Whitaker was the aggressor most of the time, even though Buddy was the champion, the bigger man, and of course the harder puncher. Still, I was laughing when I saw Whitaker's extreme showboating in the 12th round.

They were totally biased toward Holyfield you liar and you know it. Quawi was the agressor the whole fight and landed more cleaner harder punches. Are you HOlyfield's promoter or something? Quawi deserved the descision in that fight pretty clearly.

Lol, liar? Just cause we apparently have a different opinion does not make me a liar, or wrong for that matter
Soon as you learn how to debate with people you'll get much better results; otherwise I dont care what you thought of the fight, my posts, or the damn gas prices either.

I agree, it was a great fight! It was extremely close, and both guys fought their hearts out..my main problem with it was the constant low blows thrown by Qawi, and the ref's refusal to do anything about it. Even the commentators (that did seem to be pulling for Qawi) said more than once that a pt. should have been taken. And he kept coming in with his head too.
Other than that, it was great! I'm really looking forward to the replay of Holyfield-Moorer too
Oh yes, Whitaker is (or was) quite a character wasnt he? Too bad Buddy didnt manage to ko him when he was showing his ass that way (theres little I hate more than a showboater! )
Love those classics..ESPN should dedicate more time to them!

I just love TiVo.....All these fights are being recorded (the ones I don't have already) and will be on DVD in my library soon.

Also, Tracylee..I agree that the judges seemed a bit baised, but that's how it almost always is. I've gotten so I just pay it no mind.

And McKay, Qawi probably landed some of the harder punches, but more? No. Holyfield outlanded him, especially later in the fight. I didn't have a problem with the decision at all.
