Apparently the people who give Vitali the most trouble in the gym are guys who can get low and stay low while using good head and foot movement. So I think that's the way to beat him but there aren't any heavyweights out there that can do that at the moment, there are guys with pretty quick feet, there are guys with pretty good head movement, there are guys that can get low but there isn't really a guy out there who can do them all.
How do you beat Vitali Klitschko??

You need a COMPLETE fighter with many good or great abilities:
A) Defense: a combination of low ducking (like Tyson in his prime) and being very fast for in/out, or having the size to lean back (like Valuev) PLUS a very good beard. A good jab with according reach may be a fine defense as well (Wlad, perhaps even Johnson). Just holding up the gloves will not do the job.
B) Ring generalship: only very few boxers are able to use the ring to cut off the opponent for cornering, or escaping if it gets too close (Haye was good at this in his Valuev fight).
C) Technical completeness - You need to be able to strike from all angles, 'cause the openings are few and far between - Chambers comes to mind, and Kingpin is not bad in this department
D) Power - to get some respect out Vitali, you need to be able to hurt him. Lennox, and Sanders had that power; Tua, Peter, Povetkin, Arreola, Solis and Haye have it today.
E) Heart & Head - most opponents despair after a few rounds, when they realize their plan A does not work. You need to be able to change your plan to B or C, and survive a few rounds to test the plan. Have the heart to press on despite the beating you take. Arreola has the heart, Chambers the head. Kingpin apparently does not even have a plan A.
F) Determination and endurance - You need to be able to dedicte yourself to the fight for YEARS, not weeks. I was impressed by Chambers' dedication after the Povetkin loss, how he came back and dismanteld Dimitrenko. If you gas out after eight rounds, you lose. In this point, Lennox was lucky that the fight went not 10+ rounds.
You need to be at least "good" in all six departments, not only 2-3, and should have at least two "greats" in these departments.
Both Klitschkos are at least "good" in all six departments. We all know, that Lewis was good or great in most (except for stamina now and then), and he was the only one to get a true win vs. Vitali (don't say Byrd defeated Vitali - Vitali lost to his own body, not Byrd).
Last, not least, a BIG size does not hurt, either. What you lack in size (below 6'5'' /reach below 80''), you need to make up in speed.Last edited by Phirsole; 12-11-2009, 04:23 AM.Comment

Eddie Chambers would beat Vitali Klitschko because Vitali's does not have Wladimir's power or sharp jab. I think Chambers would maneuver in and out and land shots at Vitali at will.Only a fast HW wit a good chin could beat him. Chambers puts up a fight, but gets sparked late imo.
You'd have to jump in n out, throw quick flurries, and keep that goin for 12, cuz you ain't knockin VK out. That means takin whatever shots he can dish out for 12 rds, and nobody at HW can.Last edited by Boxingwizard; 12-11-2009, 06:20 AM.Comment

Fast Eddie
Eddie Chambers has speed, keeps his cool, a solid defense, and showed his ability to take on a far larger man, outboxing Dimitrenko with style. I like him.
But has he the skillset to get to the inside before Wlad moves out/holds? Does he have the power to rock Wlad? IF he gets by the jab? Does he survive a round with 10 hits from the jab, followed by a right cross? I doubt it.
The best fighters Wlad fought looked like amateurs compared to him, for the last five years. Is Eddie far better than Chagaev, Ibragimov, Byrd? I doubt it.
I like Eddie. He is among the finest fighters in HW besides the Klitschkos (I rank Chambers, Haye, and Povetkin highest), but all of them can't defeat a Klitschko.Comment

The only way to beat Vitali is literally wait for him to get injured.
I didn't see ANY quit in him against Lewis and he was dominating Byrd silly before that career threatening injury occurred.Comment

He is one of the best HWs of all time.....I doubt any current HW in the world has the tools to beat him as Mangler said you need a great chin to avoid the fate of nearly 95% of his opponents. Good defense, foot speed, and hand speed to hit and don't get hit.......if there was a 240-250lb Mayweather, I think he could beat Vitali on points.Comment
