Vegas is tailor made for fights like this...casinos, mass hotels in a confined area, with all the glitz and glamour.
Dallas, nah...besides the stadium, who gives a ****. The fight is to be showcased for the millions around the world. No one cares if the stadium holds 40 thousand more people, it'll look better on television with a more intimate setting.
I love New Orleans, I was sent there alot for work 1 year. I think it works better than Dallas since everything it's more of a walking area. It does have a few casinos, 1 that I can think of, but its nothing near a betting town like Vegas. The atmosphere is entirely different and doesnt cater to a big fight like this.
im being selfish, i want the fight in vegas because its like an hour flight for me (cheap airfare as well), or I can just drive there in 3.5-4 hours with some buddies. There's the awesome ********, the incredible sports books, comp'd food, comp'd rooms, killer strip clubs with amazing eye candy, awesome nightclubs, shopping for the girls, it's easy as hell to get around with the cabs and comp'd shuttles, etc. etc. Vegas is just a good time in general, and a great time on big fight nights.
Doesn't the gate money principally go to the promoters? So, if a stadium owner needs to recoup a multi-million dollar site fee, please explain the mechanics of how that works.
For the purpose of discussion, please feel free to use a round number of USD 10 Mn.

I've never promoted an event but it seems to me that the gate money is divided up various ways. I remember in the Williams-Pavlik negotiations the division of the gate was a big point and that money would have gone to the promoters (possibly with some distribution to the fighters?). I'm not sure if there is a standard operating procedure, lord knows there's no such thing as SOP in boxing. I would imagine that with a unique situation like this anything could be proposed. I think it was on boxingscene where there was a rumor of a $15 mil site fee offer and splitting of half the gate. I'm sure that the site owner would keep all revenues from food and beverages which should provide the extra juice that they want the fight for.
Here's rough pricing that I could see from Dallas
250 ringside at God knows = good money $2 mil maybe I dunno
1,000 seats at $600 = $0.6 mil
5,000 seats at $400 = $2 mil
10,000 seats at $200 = $2 mil
25,000 seats at $100 = $2.5 mil
50,000 seats at $50 = $2.5 mil
That adds up to $11.6 mil which would exceed the $10 mil site fee you suggested and seems reasonable to me.
I have no idea how DLH-FMJ made $18 mil from only 16,000 seats but I'm sure that has been studied extensively. I would imagine they would be able to properly price seats in order to make at least that much.
I'd love to see this made into the mass appeal event it could be and I feel like as long as fights stay in Vegas casual sports fans are going to be removed from the sport. I'd rather see it at Staples or any basketball arena instead of at a casino but at the end of the day I'd be happy if it just happens.

This was a pretty long post....and none of it really adressed how the Stadium owner would recoup $10 million dollars through ticket sales (according to you.). Where is the promoters' gate revenue?
And I would respectfully recommend you do some math before you make statements. To recoup $10 million dollars (or even FIVE million dollars) through F&B, how much would each ticketholder have to spend at concession? If you assume a 50% profit margin on F&B, each ticketholder would have to spend $200. That's per person, buddy. Just to break even.

jerry jones effed this up somehow, the greedy ba**ard. it's december so he's in full loser mode and he ruined the negotiation. the thomas and mack center is a s**thole so there's no way it'll host the fight. it's going to the grand and we all knew that on day 1, dont kid yourself.
