James Kirkland vs. Sergio Martinez @154

This is a fight HBO has to make in 2010. Another possible FOTY. SOmeone who is more relentless and give more pressure then PW. WOuld love to see how Sergio use his slickness with his hands down verse Kirkland.

Hadn't seen him before the Pwill fight, but I am a fan of Martinez now. I think he has this one.

Unless it goes to decision. He seems to have bad luck with judges.

Martinez is a lot better than I gave him credit for before.

Kirkland never really got tested, so it's tough to measure him just yet. But I'd probably roll with Martinez on a decision.

Kirkland is just a onedimensional mauler with a big punch.

              Martinez would easily outbox him.

AFter thinking about this...Kirkland stops him late. He has more pressure and more power than Paul Williams and he can fight on the inside. HIs relentlessness will tire Martinez and he won't be able to keep the beast off him. I expect Martinez to win early rounds though but lose control of the fight toward the middle rounds. Look at Kirkland-Julio, Joel is top level fighter who has faced other champions and I've never seen him look so demoralized in the ring.

Power Kirkland has more of that than Williams but I think Martinez slick movement and hand skills take Kirkland on a bad day. If not for Williams activity level he does not get the nod or even make it a close fight like he did. Kirkland might be able to hurt Martinez cause to tell you the truth I don't think Williams ever did in the fight. I think he caught him off balance and dropped him. But I also don't think Kirkland would be able to hit Martinez as much as Williams did strictly because he would not throw as many punches....Martinez all day everyday and two times on Sunday...Lefty
