No "lechon", pasteles or Morcilla for Juanma: admits having weight problems

To meet their scheduled appointment with belt holder Steven Luevano on 23 January, Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez will have to make a sacrifice that would look almost impossible these days.

Just as most Puerto Rican rice with habichuelas pasteles, roast pork, cakes and sausage, Juanma has to go on a diet.

Because of its fight earlier next year, the lefty will not take a rest period for his training in December and also will have to stay away from dishes.

"It's a training run", explained yesterday how will Juanma on the festive period. "The food at this time is mostly pork, sausage, rice with pigeon peas and stuff. But I will not eat any of that. "

    A single holiday

The boxer said that will make an exception only for a day. But it is not Christmas or farewell year. Nor is the Epiphany.

"The only day I do derangement is 27 (December), because my son (Juan Manuel, Jr.) turns four years," said the boxer easy smile and professional brand of 27-0 with 24 knockouts.

"Of course, it will not be much," he said. "A little piglet and perhaps a plate of sausage. But softly. "

Juanma understand that his natural physique makes the job a little easier.

"I am naturally skinny, but I get on the 145, 148 pounds if I'm not careful," said Lopez, who last week weighed 141 pounds for his bout with the fictional comedian Raymond Arrieta.

"So there is to be alert and be careful. In the next prepesaje hope to be in 138 or 137 (pounds) to not fall too much and not being very uneven in Cantazo.

    New air in the 126

Lopez, who at the time remains in WBO super bantamweight division (122 pounds), will rise to the featherweight division (126 pounds) to try at that weight crown against Luevano, the WBO incumbent in that category.

"It makes me do weight problems. But is the 126 (pounds) down which makes me very hard, "Lopez said yesterday.

"Even the 126 (pounds) arrived safely. Those four pounds will help us a lot. "

But the champion said that weight was not the only reason that struggled in their last meeting, when he won a decision over Rogers Mtagwa.

"I do not want to put on weight as an excuse for what happened in the fight with Mtagwa" Lopez said. "It happens several things to go better, they are experiences. But weight is definitely a factor and we will use these four pounds for us. "

Juanma, who is almost always seen with his family, said he surprised both parties during the Christmas period.

"I am calm, but at Christmas I always go home to my family to go," he said. "This time on Christmas Eve, farewell (year) and Epiphany will share with my uncles, my family, as always, but quieter. The last time (who gave a binge) was after I moved on December 24, which in January gave me a spree to release the new house.

"I'm definitely focused. My children are quiet and my wife is super. She understands my job, "he said. "There will be no Christmas this year, as we say. But within six years, when I retire, there will be a lot more Christmas.

Poor guy probably got brain damage from that journeyman in his last fight. He's now too terrified to fight Caballero and will instead cherry pick.
