Vargas style was a get down and dirty brawler warrior mentality... So his career would,ve been short anyway... God bless him...

Better than Oscar? Maybe, probably, possibly yes

        Better than Tito? No. Never.

          Overrated? In what sense?

Maybe. I think people forget how talented Vargas looked coming up. I remember watching him early in his career when he was a welter and I was amazed at his poise. He impressively outboxed a younger Yori Boy Campas, beat Raul Marquez and a rusty but dangerous Ike Quartey. I also think the Wright-Vargas bout is a little overblown in terms of robberies. It was a very, very close fight and Vargas - who had been rumoured to have had problems in camp and showed up in not-so-decent shape - closed the stronger of the two. The fact that he was able to fight on even terms with a prime Wright (who no one dared fight) speaks volumes.

I also think that performance led them to pairing him with Felix Trinidad but that was a bad mistake. And it showed. Vargas was never the same after that - he fought so much slower afterward. It's hard to say if he'd been better than Felix and Oscar had he been maneuvered a bit more carefully but, more than his skills, his outside problems (weight issues, steroids, etc.) probably show he wouldn't have been.

Vargas needed to mature more not just inside the ring but outside as well. Always involved in drama and his ego was bigger than his head. But He was good, damage goods to be exact.

he could have been better than tito, felix was one dimensional with power at the lower weights because of how he wrapped his hands. you guys have to understand that vargas had skills, he should have been polished properly and managed properly.

damn tito got alot of hype from the gift he received.

How did Tito wrapped his hands?

And, you didn't watch Tito if you think he was one dimensional. Tito had skills. Later in his career he felt in love with his power. So he only relied in his power and it cost him. Watch Tito early in his career.

And, what gift did he receive?
