Why is everyone calling Williams-Martinez the fight of the year?

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't see this as a fight of the year contender. It was a real solid, even a great fight, but definitely nothing too special. One guy was calling it Ward-Gatti on a higher skill level! I think that was Lou DiBella, so that's understandable I guess.

But seriously, what about this fight had you jumping out of your seat and shouting? Round 4 was awesome, and there were a few others with good two-way action, but it wasn't as amazing as people are making it out to sound. I was at a party watching it and it wasn't getting that much reaction from the people there.

Just for comparison's sake, I thought Agbeko-Perez was a better fight than this. I thought Marquez-Diaz was better. Hell, even Berto-Collazo was almost as good as this. Lopez-Mtagwa was far better. Just wondering if a lot of you saw some of those other fights.

It was on par with Berto-Collazo, which is an underrated fight.

      Marquez/Diaz was still better though.

I though it was a pretty good fight, but not quite FOTY, IMO. There are some others that I thought were better.

Its a contender but there hasn't been a better fight than JMM/Diaz IMO with JML/Mtagwa a close 2nd. Why were you watching a fight at a party and not partying.. ?

I don't think Diaz-JMM was fight of the year because it was one sided for JMM right before the KO, and Diaz didn't ever really hurt JMM except for in one of those early rounds.

I agree, it was only back and forth for like the first 6 rounds than the pace slowed alot, Paul punches lost their snap and Martinez was tired. I think people just wasnt expecting it to be as competitive so they overracted calling it a fight of the year candidate.

Good fight but its being overated imo.. Basically it was Martinez putting a whopping on Williams, Williams did ok but Martinez had the guy wobbling **** loads of times!

Fight of the year goes to Marquez-Diaz, no doubt. No way Williams-Martinez is even a candidate.
