All welterweight fights are fought with 8-oz gloves. That is the standard of the Association of Boxing Commissioners as well as Boxing Commissions in each state. Fighters don't make that decision. If they were fighting at 154, they would use 10-oz gloves. They wouldn't have the option of using 8-oz gloves. The fact that people are reporting this as if this is some astonishing revelation is indicative of their lack of boxing knowledge.Comment

Wrong!!! In Nevada 10-oz gloves are mandatory unless both fighters agree to use 8-oz gloves. Like Cotto vs Margarito both had to agree to use 8-oz gloves. Question: What are the gloves sizes based on the boxer/kickboxer's weight?
Answer: Athletes (boxers/kickboxers) weighing-in up to and including 135 pounds must wear 8 oz. gloves in competition, while athletes weighing-in over 135 pounds (junior welterweight class and above) must wear 10 oz. gloves in competition. However, athletes weighing in over 135 but not more than 147 pounds may wear 8 ounce gloves in competition if both athletes agree to do so in writing.
