I can totally live with that. I gave Williams round 11, but that was the closest round of the entire fight, and I also don't believe in even rounds. Good score. And really this scoring keeps coming up consistently. These rounds for these guys. You have to give Martinez the first 3 and you have to give Williams the next 3. It's even through 6 no matter what.Solid card, but I thought the 11th was a clear Martinez round.
Rounds 4, 12, and 9 could have been even rounds, but I just don't believe in even rounds. I gave those 3 to Williams. Round 11 though, was close, but I thought clear for Sergio.
I had it 114-114.
Williams with rounds 4,5,6,7,9, and 12.
Martinez with rounds 1,2,3,8,10, and 11.
From there, I think they flip-flopped rounds until the last 2, which I gave to Williams, but could have been split if you gave Martinez round 11. Which I can totally accept.Comment

Either way, it doesnt matter ecause is a piint difference in the round. 10-9 is teh same as 9-8Comment

I am a fan of even rounds.
Historically even rounds were scored often, but there has been a trend away from it in recent years.
it is possible for a judge to score a round as a tie, which is exceedingly rare. In this case the score for the round would be 10-10. If each fighter scores a knockdown, the knockdowns effectively cancel each other out and the score returns to 10 points for the winner and 9 points for the loser of the round.Comment

true. and I even like it the way you did (9-8 rather than 10-9) but just wanted to point out the rules. you're right. it's the same 1-point difference either way.Comment

Duane Ford told me (and I don't think he's the greatest judge in the world by any stretch) that judges usually only score 10-10 to cover their asses, meaning they didn't pay close enough attention to the round and don't want to let their mishap play too big of a role in the outcome.I am a fan of even rounds.

I say pay attention or get out of the profession of judging. I think every round has a winner and it's the judge's responsibility to figure out who. Now, if you have an even round in mind you want to use as an example, then cool. Let's talk about it. Round 11 of Martinez-Wiliams was VERY close to even, but I'd rather you pick one way or the other than call it 10-10.
It was close, so do you like quantity? Give it to Williams, who landed more
Do you value a few hard power shots over quantity? Maybe it's Martinez' round. He had the big right hook to end it, and if you felt the round was up for grabs at that point, give it to Martinez.Last edited by DiegoFuego; 12-06-2009, 04:17 PM.Comment

Thank you, sometimes we have to accept the fact that neither deserved the round.I am a fan of even rounds.

Very tough fight to score. Paul was landing alot of 1's and 2's where as Sergio was landing a lot of the harder shots. Sergio would have had the fight in the bag hadn't he been knocked off balance in the first. I had it 115-113 Williams. Sergio got to careless and allowed Paul to smack him with his jab the whole fight which in cause-&-effect would let Paul's lands be a key factor into scoring of the rounds, even if his shots were still ineffective.Comment
