Williams needs to stay at 154 because Middleweight is a really lame division. Nobody in that division would be approved as an HBO opponent. It isn't like Sturm or any of those other Europeans at 160 could beat guys like Martinez or Williams. The better fighters are at the lower weight classes in certain cases. Middleweight right now is a witness protection area from 168 and 154 like 168 was to 160 and 175 about a decade ago. Williams will get no credit from anybody if he establishes a foot hold there. And just like Burner and Mario mentioned Pavlik seems shook and he's the only interesting opponent at Middle.

Williams loses to any 168 fighter or above.
If he can make the weight he can fight there, he can make 147, 154, and 160 so he's entitled to call out the people in those divisons

he probably can make 147 but he aint gonna be effective at that weight class. Fighting, coming up and down in weight takes something out of you.

its because pwill isnt that good if he fights guys his size he gets ass ****d...he has no defense he cant adjust..he cant fight on the inside..hes not slick like some think he is..he doesnt use his reach at times..he cant box....all he can do is throw 23456 punches a round and sometimes use his reach..he fights smaller guys because he can come i fight night in the 170's and dwarf them..i dont think hes serious when he calls all these guys out..i think he just does so that he can still say that hes "most feared'

There are only a hand full of fighters that are even pwill height anyway .

This is what people fail to understand. They assume since he is a 6 Feet 1 1/2 and 82 inch reach than he needs to fight tall guys, well he is naturally around 150-160. Most guys in those divisions are shorter, in face he would need to go to Light Heavyweight to find many guys around 6-2 or more. Martinez was 5-11 not exactly a midget. Also he was willing to get in with Pavlik who is maybe a half inch taller and has power, yet pavlik missed doctor appointments and used a staph infection to chicken out

I am sure many people now will think Williams is not that good. Here are a few things people should consider why it was a close fight:

1-Martinez is a very good fighter, either a B+ or A- fighter, techinical skill, speed, and great chin.

2-Williams was getting ready for Pavlik and mentally had to regroup for Martinez and had less time to prepare for it.

3-Williams is still trying to win over fans and public, if he goes out there using a jab and not trying to get a KO, less people will find him appealing and other fighters will use that excuse to duck him.

As fans we should be happy that we had a fight in which 2 guys were willing to engage. Maybe Williams will now look less scary and get the fights he wants and needs.
