Well it all starts now.
Very impressive display last night, and i believe now it's the time for Amir to set his sights on the following;
He must fight in America. At least once, if not twice, in 2010. Im an Englishman but i recognise the significance and importance of American exposure and the ability to excite the American public.
He should set his sights on BIG fights. Unification fights are out there. Timothy Bradley is a perfect opponent, were Amir to fight, and beat him, in America then the accolade of 'marque fighter' would be a big step closer.
If not unification fights, then fights against world recognised opposition. Marquez is an option, who at a late age, and slowing speed would suit Amir. Mosley even, another - tho much more difficult - opposition, not to mention a likely move up to 147, tho i see this becoming a natural weight for Amir over the next couple of years.
Mandatory fights, Frank Warren cherry picked opponents will not convince anyone in 2010, and i hope Amir wont be bullied into going down that route - i think his team, and of course, his trainer, would ensure this wouldn't happen - Freddie seems determined to have him fight in the US straight away - a good thing in my opinion.
All in all a VERY good year for Amir Khan. Ok, MAB was over the hill, but it got everyone involved in the fight. Kotelnik, whilst a 'weak' champion, was a champion non the less, and the perfect for fight Amir. Salita was unbeaten, tho with little class on his record he was still despatched in under 2 mins.
I hope Amir does take the correct path in 2010, and im confident he will. This time next year we could be talking about a serious contender for a top 10 p4p boxer, and that would be wonderful for the United Kingdom and boxing in general.
