Paul Williams needs to tighten up that defense and use his reach more.

This is the reason why politics will always hurt a fighter. Williams was prepared to fight Pavlik, but of course Pavlik had to postpone the fight, and Martinez stepped in as a replacement in short notice, that had to affect Williams too.

no i think he overreaches alot which leads to him getting hit..i always said ever since i saw him fight that he doesnt really fight tall..say how a klitschko fights..he fights like a short pressure fighter and sometimes gets to close.hes like 6'3 and he still ducks punches and that leads to him being the same height as his opponent and easier to hit.

He was using his height and reach very well against Wright, but against Martinez he was constantly lunging in.

I don't think that's how Paul likes to fight.

And honestly, if he was on the outside trying to jab and use his reach I think martinez beats him.

Emmanuel made a good kind of comment about the tall fighters that put on tons of pressure are the worst type. I think I agree with that.

Paul is the rare example where it probably works better for him to fight the way he does.

i'd rather have him change his nickname. it's disrespectful to the boxing world. you can't call yourself the punisher when you're just an average boxer.

He definently needs to improve it...a big puncher would really do damage...which is why I give Pavlik a chance if they fight...

Paul aint disciplined enuff to stay outside and skool Pavlik, he'll make it a fight and let Kelly have his moments...although I still favor Paul

martinez was training for a bum, to switch training to fighting a taller opponent with alot of reach who is a top 10 fighter must have had effect on him as well.

Williams doesn't necessary need to try to outbox his opponents, but he needs still keep his range. Williams was constantly in Martinez's range which is why he's able to counter Williams so much. Against Wright, he was just throwing a volume amount of punches but Wright couldn't counter because he kept Wright at arms length.

He fought a perfect fight against Wright and Quintana, so just needs to tighten up his offense so he's not vulnerable to counters. None the less he still needs a lot of improvement to stay consistent.
