would be interested on your opinion on kess bat...
personally heres a few points i want to make about the fight
1) VERSATILITY AND CONFIDENCE? - kess needs to show more versatility and dare i say it more confidence in his abilities. there were times when the lead left hook and lead right hand were on but kess didn't throw them.....maybe he underestimates just how quick his hands are. there were other moments in the fight were kess should have also let his hands go - i.e. when at mid range i remember thinking if he 'shoeshines' here he can land something on ward but kess didn't.
there were also occasions where he looked extremely basic!! there were opportunities for an overhand right but kess only seemed to be able to shoot the right hand in a straight line!!!!!!
2) HIS TEAM: imo his team let him down again the other day. imo a good corner team needs to watch the fight closely and look for opportunites while simultaneously warning their own man of mistakes that he was making. his team should have warned him about backing up in straight lines and then getting caught after the break. they should have told him to feint to the head and go to the body to slow ward and to land the lead left hook and then follow it up with the right hand quickly.
this is not just me being wise after the event - these were all points i made after the fight (check post history if you want).
however despite a humbling loss i don't think kess should lose too much faith, you don't become a bad boxer overnight, he still has some talent but he needs to believe in himself and his abilties more (heres where manny comes in, see below). if theres any consolation its that he is fighting the perfect fight next, he is fighting a guy tailor made for him, in his own country and could come out with a belt at the end of it!!!
personally i think the recruitment of manny will work wonders.
manny would add some much needed experience and nous to the corner team, he offers good advice throughout the fight and would instantly command the respect of everyone in camp kess. manny has worked with good fighters before and made them great (lewis, vlad), manny has worked with good 1-2 fighters and has added a level of depth and versatility to them.
i think manny also has some fire in him as well and i think kess needs that, sometimes he seems a bit naive and hopefully manny will get him riled up and make him adopt a fighters mindset rather than a boxers mindset.
i also think manny could teach kess a few things i.e. using the elbow to set up the right uppercut on the inside, how to feint, bodywork etc.
i've commented beforehand on manny and kess being a good fit for ewach other, check my post history if you want. your thoughts bat?
