Why Williams with a month to go for this fight didnt wanted it at 154, but he only weighted 157 at the weight and was willing to fight Clottey at 154?

Hey look. I'm pretty disappointed in this fight not taking place at 154 too. But do you think that's all Paul Williams' fault? Martinez knows he's got that green and gold belt as cushion in case he loses tonight. It's not like he was in a hurry to fight at 154 either. And if you really pay attention to things behind the scenes, you would know that Sergio had a fight scheduled on original Diaz-Malinaggi date that was scheduled at a catch weight of 157-158. Not characteristic of a guy who's interested in risking his title against a dangerous opponent.

And I don't know how hard it would've been for Williams to make 147 after training for a Middleweight fight against Pavlik. That's why the only way a Clottey-Williams fight could've taken place was probably at 154 and Clottey is a huge ass Welterweight himself. But we know who backed out on that now don't we?

I hate Paul Williams and always have.

That being said I bet on him tonight to beat the Margarito victim.

              Death by pitty pat!

                  Here's to a good fight
he has 24 KO's in 44 wins....i don't think his power is anything to be feared....

good post. i'm hoping williams is just as focused for this fight, as he was for the pavlik fight. no matter how many ppl duck him, and he has to settle for "replacements," all he has to do is keep winning, and eventually the big names will have to fight him.

i agree with the author tho. they need to find williams a "home" state to fight in, and quit with the idea of him being a globe-trotter....truth is, his lack of a "dependable" fan base, may have just as much to do with him not getting fights with mayweather and pacquiao, as his freakish size and athletic ability.

settle in somewhere, and keep busting heads, and everything else will fall into place....that'd be my advice to him.

Mentally, Williams isn't prepared for Martinez after all he's been through with the Pavlik fight falling through twice. He's primed for an upset. Martinez by UD
