Comments Thread For: Gavin Rees Tops Colin Lynes For Prizefighter Crown

By Jake Donovan - Former super lightweight titlist Gavin Rees once again knows what it feels like to be a champion, if only for a single evening.

The squat Welsh ****er managed to brawl his way to three consecutive three-round decisions, including a masterful win over Colin Lynes in the finals to win the Prizefighter tournament Friday evening at the Olympia in West Kensington, London, England.

It turned out to be will over skill in the anticipated finals matchup. Lynes was viewed as the better skilled and quicker boxer, and was determined to make it a boxing match. Rees would have none of it, going on the attack from the opening bell in his greatest efforts to draw Lynes into a dogfight. [Click Here To Read More]

Rees is OK at British level, not sure he will make a splash on the world stage again

seems kind of embarrassing for a recent alphabet champion to be fighting in a three-round tournament like this, but Rees was never more than a fluke title holder

I thought it was a smart move for his career. I agree that he's no great shakes, but if anything, the move shows he recognized his limitations and sought the most effective way for instant exposure. Now he goes into 2010 with a little bit of buzz and a much needed confidence boost.
