Calzaghe was just the wrong kind of fighter for Winky to fight.

winky was at his best when he was able to nullify the others guys punching power and then use his own authorative jab to set up power punches and occaionally hook off the jab. however this is a style that seemed to serve him well against smaller fighters (trinidad, ssm etc) and not so well against bigger fighters (hopkins williams and possibly even JT).

anways calz was never able to make 164 but if this fight was held at any weight it would be 166 or 168. either way i see calz simply outworking wink, i don't think winks jab would be all that effective against calz, calz is not the type of fighter to back up from someones jab.

calz would find his distance and then let his hands fly - calz by comfortable dec.

Reading through this thread I have to call bias. It's one thing to dislike Calzaghe, but it's amazing how people will refuse to admit he'd beat someone so much smaller and without the power to trouble him.

So much smaller? Calzaghe is 5'11 reach 73' Winky is 5'10 reach 72', an inch isnt that much of an advantage by any means.

i could see scenarios where both could win...winky backs joe up with his jab and smothers calzaghes offense..or calzaghe finds punching range and just outworks wright..stylewise williams was a harder matchup for wright than calzaghe in my opinion.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking. It'd be a boring fight though. I pretty much see it as Winky coming forward in his turtle shell, and Joe throwing lots, but hitting only Winky's arms.

He is talking about Natural weight I believe not height or reach, or maybe I'm wrong. I still want to know why the **** Jeff Lacy used Winky as a sparring partner when Winky doesn't fight anything like Calzaghe. No wonder why he took an ass beating, there styles are not similar at except that they're both southpaws and thats it.
