So apparently Manny Pacquiao has thrown his name into the political scene and will run for a congressional seat in the Philippines. Then mix in the eventual showdown between himself and Floyd Mayweather Jr, and bam, you have pretty much a typical day in the world of Manny Pacquiao. Distractions and Manny Pacquiao are like peanut butter and Jelly, one goes with the other. Something would seem oddly out of place if Manny Pacquiao didn't have some sort of distraction circling around him.
With each and every past training camp Manny has been circled with a plethora of distractions from numerous angles. So what have the distractions done for Manny thus far? Well let us first swing our radar toward Mexico. Pacquiao's thumping of Mexico's legends has not only earned the respect of the legend's themselves, but it's earned the respect of the Mexican boxing fans as well. When this writer spoke with newly crowned world champion from the Philippines, Rodel Mayol, he spoke on how popular Pacquiao is in Mexico, " Yes everybody knows Manny Pacquiao in Mexico, they really like him down here." Mayol recently defeated Edgar Sosa for the WBC light flyweight title down in Mexico.
So with the many distractions that Manny Pacquiao has to deal with, as of yet, is has not impacted his ability to get the job done in the ring. Recently, Pacquiao trained in the Philippines for half of his camp. Once again the distractions circled the wagon and reports of marriage problems surfaced between Manny and Jinky. Then mix in two typhoons, fist fights between Ariza and Michael Koncz, and the ongoing feud between Koncz, and trainer Freddie Roach. So how does Manny handle all of this? He beats the brakes off of a full fledged welterweight champion in Miguel Cotto. What distractions?
Now comes the big mega fight negotiations for the mega fight, Mayweather vs Pacquiao. I'm guessing that once again there will be more distractions. The whole political saga, the Ariza and Koncz factor, and until someone tells this writer differently, Koncz still hates Roach, and Roach still hates Koncz. Will Pacquiao just sail on through it all just like he's been able to do every other time? If I am Floyd Mayweather I would be hoping that Manny has a peaceful and quiet training camp, because if the trend stays the same as previous Pacquiao camps, with lots of distractions, it doesn't usually bode too well for Pacquiao's opponents.
What makes Manny Pacquiao such an incredible fighters is his ability to block out distractions. It's like he has a built in on/off switch that he can just mentally flick when he walks into a gym, or a boxing ring. What distractions?
