I thought he looked really good.

The first 4 rounds hopkins wasn't doing much and seemed a bit rusty, although physically he appeared perfectly fine. His opponents style of fighting is a swarming one and he was a rough guy, fought hard/rough/dirty on the inside himself. I had it 2 rounds a piece after 4.

After that, from the 5th round and on hopkins completely dominated and was having fun. He was landing very heavy shots but too bhop's opponents credit, he had a very sturdy chin.

At the end of round 12 hopkins was still throwing combinations and bolo punches and appeared like he could go another 6 rounds.

The only one thing of concern was that hopkins ate a few more shots that I'm used to seeing. Obviously they didn't effect him or hurt him, but he was hit flush a few times. I don't know if that was rust/age, or simply the two style clashes and hopkins willingness to trade shots with the guy.

All things considered, I'd give bhop a B+ performance.

He didn't blast Ornelas out the water imo.. Though he did stagger Ornelas in the 12th

but he won by a wide UD. WIder than I had it.

He then went on to say, that the Jones fight is still on.. and.. he's gonna be Heavyweight champ by 2010.

But judging from that performance, I don't really see how he can beat Haye.

he looked ok but not that great. far from his pavlik performance. ornelas hit him cleanly a lot more than pavlik or calzaghe. hopkins landed the better punches, hurt him to the body in one round, roughed him up with his usual tactics, showed a decent workrate, good stamina and won about 9 or 10 rounds but it was competitive throughout. i dont give him much of a chance against a dawson boxer type.

^^the only thing though Ornelas fights totally different than pavlik & calzaghe. He applies a lot of pressure and swarms you. That's part of the reason he looked better against pavlik because pavlik was just so damn hittable and predicable. Ornelas was constantly in hopkins grill for much of the fight.

You can't expect a 45 year old to look great every time, especially one coming off a long layoff. The likes of Archie Moore and George Foreman also got up for the real challenges and often fought down to their opposition.

Hopkins is still trouble for a lot of people.

His feet haven't slowed down. And that's why he's still so good.
