Bernard Hopkins insists he still plans to fight Roy Jones Jnr on his way to an audacious heavyweight title bid in 2010.
The 44-year-old Hopkins marked his return to the ring after a 14-month absence on Wednesday with a unanimous decision over light-heavyweight Enrique Ornelas.
However the Executioner's hopes of moving on to a showdown with Jones in March looked to have been dashed by his old rival's shock first-round defeat to Danny Green in Australia.
Tune-up
Hopkins, though, claims that the fight could still happen.
"Oh yeah, definitely," he said. "I think I can still fight him."
Hopkins sees a potential bout with Jones as the perfect tune-up to a shot at the heavyweight title - with Britain's WBA champion David Haye firmly in his sights.
"I'm now going to be heavyweight champion in 2010," said the former middleweight kingpin.
For that to happen, though, Hopkins needs to step up in class after seeing off the brave challenge of the overmatched Ornelas, who drops to 29-6.
Other than a brief rally from the Mexican in the fourth, where he landed a succession of rights, the fight was all Hopkins - with the judges scoring it 118-110, 120-108 and 119-109.
"I'd like to give Ornelas a lot of credit, he didn't come to lay down," said Hopkins, who now improves to 50-5-1.
"He hung in there, he took some great shots. I took some great shots. I think for 44 years old, my energy level was fantastic."
