Comments Thread For: Bernard Hopkins Decisions Ornelas… Now What?

By Jake Donovan - Bernard Hopkins did his job. Roy Jones didn’t.

    Now what?

Even with the long overdue rematch between ring legends hitting the scrap pile the moment most Americans awoke Wednesday morning, it was still business as usual for the 44-year young Hopkins.

The former undisputed middleweight champion returned to the ring for the first time since his masterful dismantling of Kelly Pavlik more than a year ago, this time easily turning away the challenge of determined but ultimately outgunned Enrique Ornelas at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Hopkins weighed in at the light heavyweight limit of 175 lb; Ornelas a shade lighter at 173 ˝ for their 12-round bout that topped a card which aired live on VERSUS network.

The hometown crowd rallied hard behind their legendary local hero from the ringwalk al the way until the opening bell. But only as Hopkins can, action quickly came to a grinding halt, as boxing’s ageless graybeard refused to allow Ornelas to fight at any semblance of a brisk pace. [Click Here To Read More]

      Hopkins-Dawson would be great!
      Hopkins-Green would be good!

      Hopkins-Haye would be intriguing!

i say he should fight either Chad Dawson, Haye, or get a cruiserweight belt. As MUCH AS I WOULD LOVE HOPKINS TO BEAT THE **** OUT OF ROY JONES STILL, AND AS MUCH as i do not LIKE ROY JONES, I wouldn't really like HOpkins to do it because he is already kicking a dog thats down. But if it was to happen, i would probably watch it in a heartbeat lol.

But I say he should fight Dawson in March and if he wins, get Haye in september. I wouldn't want him to fight Haye then Have to fight Dawson and come down in weight like 20 pounds. Not at his age. But if he wants that one fight that if he would win he could retire with a grin, i think it would be Haye. But it is easier said then done. Haye is no chump, he has power and speed.

This fight against tonite showed that Ornelas is a strong competitor and that Hopkins did need to shake off ring rust. He got hit with Some Shots in there i HARDLY see him get hit with. It looked like timing was slightly off, and it looked like ring rust. But he didn't look like a 44 year old man turning 45. But once he got in his groove in the mid rounds, i think he took TOTAL control easily.

Hopkins vs Haye would be amazing.

A HW fight with interest that doesn't involve the Klit Bro's.

          Nice.

You are crazy. No way there should be a B-Hop vs RJJ II. And it's weird that no one wants any part of Dawson.

I'm not a huge fan of B-Hop, but you have to give the man credit what he's been able to achieve at his ripe old age of 44.

Hopkins v Dawson fight sounds the best option to me I think Haye would kill him.

Hopkins best bet would be going after Green in Australia, I thought he looked slower then usual and got hit a lot more then he should have been. I would bet a big amount against him if he fought Dawson or Haye.
