Hopkins really looked old

another "fight fan" with no real knowledge of the sweet science. he ain't fought in how long, and he's 44, he looked a hell of a lot better then most half his age, even with a layoffComment

He looks slower, looks less sharper, and his punch output is much lower now.Uhh, he looked pretty damn fresh to me. I mean yeah he's 44 years old and isn't quite as fast as he used to be, but that was his style of fighting. He seemed alert and his reflexes were there.
He did eat a few more punches than I'm used to, but that was also due in part to his opponents aggression and hopkins taking some chances.Last edited by Boxingwizard; 12-02-2009, 10:34 PM.Comment

The fact that it took like 5 rounds to truly dominate an opponent just means he can no longer throw a high punch-output for 12 rounds, that's a sign of age. In his recent fights Hopkins has looked really sloppy.Comment

I agree on Hopkins looking slower and a little less sharp but that could be due to him not fighting for over a year, and at his age thats a big deal.
Regarding his workrate, i think it was pretty good after round 4, He wasn't active early on because of the ring rust.
Hopkins hasn't been able to substain a high output for 12 rounds since Joppy in 03.
Hopkins workrate has picked up abit in his last 2 fights imo though compared to how his workrate was against Taylor, Tarver and Calzaghe.
Against Wright his workrate wasn't bad either actually.Last edited by Pugilistic™; 12-02-2009, 10:54 PM.Comment
