Jones and McClellan were both mw at the same time, he didnt make a permanent move up until he fought Toney in 94. McClellan was gunning for Jones on the assumption he got past Benn.

I think there were about 2 guys he didn't really want to fight, Frankie Liles and Michael Nunn, 2 lanky southpaws.
Yes...he fought Liles in the amateurs several times and got a standing eight count once. But I'm not sure Liles was so viable during Roy's LHW reign - though he would have been just as difficult. Nunn had a nice run before losing to Rochigianni.

Liles was viable around 1995 though when they were both titlists at 168.

Yeah, Nunn was a little iffy, he actually lost to Liles and maybe would've gotten the Jones fight had he beaten Rocchogiani but I still don't think Jones was too keen on fighting him.

Me neither. Tall, baldheaded southpaws were his kryptonite so maybe he would've fought Nunn . But Liles would've given him hell.

Yeah, Liles has a very good right jab, knew how to keep distance, good skills, would've given him a very, very tough fight.

I think Hopkins is more dangerous than Benn

Hopkins was a nobody back then, its only after he amazed a large number of title defences that people started calling him a great mw champion.

James Toney Rematch, Toney was weight drain in their first fight.

There was a rematch clause for a fight at smw, but Toney said he couldnt make smw anymore. He wanted to fight him at lhw and HBO was also interested in it, Jones wasnt for some reason.
