It's a fight that I would and wouldn't want to see for various reasons.
Being a 6'1"... some even say a 6'2" welterweight, Paul "The Punisher" Williams is a freak of nature when it comes to competing within the 147 pound weight class. He's a humble yet confident champion that has competed as high as the 160 pound limit even contemplating the leap up to the super middleweight division in search of bigger and badder fish to fry. Unfortunately for the Augusta-based prize-fighter, he's been avoided like the black and purple plague by even the most heralded welterweights on the planet.
Yes... that includes names such as Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley.
Unfortunately being that up until this moment, Williams has the urge and ability to continue hover around the welter, junior middle, and middleweight divisions... it begs most to ask the question of a potentially historic fight between himself and the "Pacman".
A super-fight?
A freak-show?
A recipe for disaster?
Possibly all of the above as both Manny Pacquiao and Paul Williams are pure fighters and menacing southpaws at that.
Being a big supporter of both throwback warriors, I cringe at the thought of the fight actually transpiring yet I'm intrigued at the same time.
When The Boxing Truth Radio proposed such an idea to "The Punisher", he was very complimentary and respectful of what some might consider an overmatched opponent in Manny.
As crazy as it might sound, I wouldn't count Manny Pacquiao out against anyone that can legally make the 147-pound weight limit regardless of their size and length. On the other hand... Paul Williams brings that same warrior mentality to the ring as Pacquiao (we must remember he defeated Antonio Margarito while the Mexican might possibly have entered their fight with altered handwraps) coupled with having a significant height and reach advantage that might provide to kryptonite for Superman himself.
I'm conflicted on the fight but wouldn't it be one hell of a way to solidify one's stature as possibly the number 2 greatest fighter of all-time only millimeters behind Sugar Ray Robinson?
Let's face it... no one will ever dethrone Robinson as the G.O.A.T. but being second place in this instance is really first for the modern era...
