    Oscar vs. Pernelll

i just saw this fight again i havent seen it since i was a kid. I dont see what the controversy was, I didnt see Pernell do anything special all he did was dance around (clown around) and run around. I think the reason for the controversity was cause this was Oscar's only fight that he didnt dominate.

he didn't dominate Quartey, Quartey was on his way to winning a descision but De La Hoya came on in the last round and saved himself and came away with a SD.

There is a really good fight coming involving Ike Quartay that I hope to God is televised by Showtime.

He is fighting Kelly Pavlik Who I have seen fight on Showtime before and that guy can really crack hard. Pavlik is 24-0 21KO's. This is Quartey's second comeback fight since loosing to Vargas. He recently beat Clint McNeil by an 8th round stoppage. I think Pavlik has a good chance to stop Quartey, from what I have seen of Pavlik he is rising star but this is gonna be a big test for both fighters. If Pavlik wins it will propell him into being a known fighter. If Quartey wins his comeback is definitely legit. Quartey is fighting often, this fight is in June his last fight was in January so he seems serious about this comeback. I cannot wait to see this fight. Showtime better f***ing televise it, I think Pavlik is under contract with showtime.

This guy can be a serious contender.

        hmm

De La Hoya is perhaps not given enough credit for his comeback vs Quartey.

As far as the Whitaker fight goes...well...matter of styles? Maybe people are too harsh on Oscar when in reality he deserved it as much as Pea.

I agree, Pernell did not do anyting special in their fight...Oscar did not look his best but in my mind that ws Oscar's fight without question.

Pea is my favorite fighter but even I had him losing the fight. It was very close with the KD but Pea just didn't do enough in the middle rounds to help himself. I do think however that a lot of people over estimated the effectiveness of Oscars punches because Whitaker moved around the ring a lot trying to avoid them. Neither guy really did a lot in the fight...apart from the KD, it was really boring.

                  I second that....
Oscar is a good boxer, but in my opinion he was overrated..
he had some big names on his resume, they were either shot...
                  or the fights were close

but he was a great boxer

Robinson, Leonard, Hearns, Duran, prime chavez, prime taylor, aaron pryor etc. would all own him...
