Since when did being the underdog in a fight enhance the value of the victory?

Previous fights from both fighters are irrelevant as of now, they're done and gone with and both fighters are quite successful in their own right.

The only thing they can do now is face each other inside the ring to determine who the better fighter is.

Hatton- at a weight he was notorious for struggling at
De La Hoya- a whopping year later, DLH wanted that weight
Marquez- at a weight he had never fought at, 15 lbs of flab and muscle added to make him slow, Mayweather did not even make the weight, he still hit Mayweather flush but was unable to hurt him.

              [/IMG]
Ricky Hatton when he fought Maywether was 43-0 and all of those 43 wins were at 140lbs.

Hatton in his 4th pro fight fought Paul Salmon and weighed 144lbs (1st rd KO)

in his 12th pro fight he fought Brian Coleman and weighed 144lbs (2nd rd KO)

in his 14th pro fight he fought Mark Ramsey and weighed 145lbs (won on points)

Fast forward to Luis Collazo, Hatton weighed 147lbs and beat a guy that was really a Natural Welterweight & Junior Middleweight. Collazo has spent his entire career fighting in between both divisions. He beat Collazo by UD and won a WW title.

The reason I bring all of this up is because I notice that many posters like yourself tend to regurgitate the same nonsense over and over just like this myth that "Hatton was ineffective at 147lbs and thats not his weight...blah blah". When in fact Hatton has to cut weight to even get down to 140lbs. Hatton weighed in @ 145lbs vs Mayweather, he fought a guy UNLIKE Collazo who really wasnt a natural WW at that time. Remember Collazo was fighting @ JMW & Hatton weighed 147lbs vs him and was very effective.

If you are going to tell me that Hatton (who fought his entire career @140lbs) was not able to fight 5lbs above his weight class effectively then I will tell you that Pac's win vs Hatton is much more diminished due to the fact that is was almost 2 years after Mayweather Ko'ed him and that Hatton was effected by moving up in weight thats why Pacquiao Ko'ed him. Would that make sense? Remember Juan Lazcano In round eight rocked left hook to the chin that wobbled him, and in round ten, Hatton was hurt again by a left hook. I remember leading up to the fight with Mayeweather EVERYONE said Hatton would be the bigger, stronger and he would bully the soft Mayweather. Then when Mayweather destroys him at his own style Hatton wasnt able to fight @ 147?...that is absurd!

floyd had some 50/50 fights in his career. A lot of people thought corrales would beat him, a lot thought hatton would, some thought odlh would. I think resume wise pac has the slight edge pretty much purely because of the cotto win

If you are speaking on merely a "NAME" then yes Cotto is a very good victory for Pac. But in my humble opinion Floyd Mayweather beating Baldomir for the undisputed WW Championship is a much better win vs Pacquiao beating Cotto for the vacant WBO welterweight title that he got from beating Michael Jennings that Paul Williams vacated. And Mayweather for good measure beat up Zab Judah since people thought Baldomir beating Judah was a fluke.

FACT is Cotto has NEVER beat a WW champ for a belt, he has only captured vacant titles.

People always want to use double standards but when you look at Pac winning his WW title from a guy who won a vacant title vs Mayweather who beat the last 2 Undisputed WW champions, it just doesn't compare IMO.

I know a lot of Pacquiao supporters will say "Baldomir isn't Miguel Cotto". And that would be very true, but one thing that Baldomir has done that Cotto hasn't done is beat a LEGITIMATE WW Champion..as a matter of fact he beat the UNDISPUTED WW Champ in Judah at the time. And that is more impressive that Miguel Cotto beating Michael Jennings for a Vacant Title Belt.

Mayweather Beating Baldo for the WBC Lineal/Undisputed WW Title > Pac beating Cotto for the Vacated WBO belt Cotto won
