Watch the 1st 2 rounds, Guzman had an easy time defending against Funeka's offense. He stopped ducking down after getting the broken nose, hardly any energy to fight with. Guzman is not known to get tired and Funeka never attacked the body like Soto/ Barrios did. This goes to show the broken nose had a serious effect on him.

I would actually take Guzman in a rematch. Call me crazy, but I still think Guzman is the better fighter. His defensive ability is very impressive. If he can find a way to fight 12 rounds like he fought the first two rounds then he'll win easily.

However, I know the odds on that happening are not good b/c Guzman looks like he might be as mentally challenged as Zab Judah.

Maybe it would be broken again in rematch, his defense is not exactly great. In a rematch, at some point Funeka would catch him again and break him down slow.

Q: Why would you stop ducking down just because your nose was broken anyway? That makes no sense to me. Wouldn't you be more inclined to duck down to avoid shots to the nose and help stop the bleeding?

Funeka makes a few mistakes but is the more versatile fighter, IMO. Guzman had no chance by throwing those occasional single looping right handers and trying to be smooth. WTF was he thinking? It seems he tries to be in the same class of someone like Mayweather but really falls short pretty badly. He can't avoid getting tagged, and when that happns, he falls to pieces. Very inconsistent.

I liked Funeka's game plan last night, he did an excellent job of patiently breaking through with that long jab, gradually mixing in heavier shots and combo's and kept his foot on the gas until the end. Pretty consistent fighter, possibly with quite an underrated ring IQ. Guzman is too sparing. I reckon it'd be the same result if they fight again unless Guzman changes his ways.

He was too busy wiping the blood off his face. I still don't know what caused the broken nose. Guzman is well rounded and to look so tired against someone who didn't attack the body, I'm certain Guzman's low activity had alot to do with the broken nose. Half way threw the fight Guzman's punches seemed very weak, no snap to them. Someone of Guzman's style needs all the stamina they can get. Funeka is the real deal though, I wouldn't have faced Funeka after a layoff. In a rematch, I'd definitely pick Guzman.

Yeah, bad move facing Funeka after a lay off, that's a good point. Still, I'd take Funeka every time. Maybe get a little bet going if they do it again, if you are interested.

Funny thing is just about all of Guzmans career he has long layoffs...so what the? While all the good and even great fighters are fighting 2-3 times a year he is fighting once a yr or yr and 1/2.
