The only way to get a lot of hype drummed up for Byrd is for him to beat Tyson or beat Vitali in a hyped bout. His earlier win over Vitali wasn't seen by a ton of fans and wasn't remembered by the casual fan. And he can't pick up a TKO due to an injury, either. People get excited over a big win. Otherwise, Byrd will always be a second-tier champion in the general public's eyes. People who follow boxing know better, but people who follow boxing don't create superstars on their own.

If we're talking in strictly marketing terms, Byrd's religious talk isn't going to help matters much either. Born-agains are pretty creepy most of the time.Comment
