Great poll..two great old-timer light heavyweights. Can't say I've seen enough Archie Moore footage to make the call though.

For those that don't know much about Archie.....

Archie Moore ''The Old Mongoose'' was a clever crafty boxer, his cross arm defence was hard to penetrate. Moore was one of the most devastating punchers in the history of boxing. Moore stopped fighters with his left hook as many as he did his straight right. On record he scored the most knockouts in boxing history.

But don't be fooled Archie just wasn't a straight ahead brawler slugger. Moore was cute, crafty, patient, and slick. He was more than willing at times to have a chess match and wait for the perfect oppurtinuty to come. Moore would make each punch count and when he wanted to be was a expert spolier. But when the chance would come, Moore would let bombs go, and sooner or later his opponent would be on his back.

Moore was a meticulous genius, but yet a devastating puncher at the same time. Moore's boxing savvy was incredible.

He was either 36 or 39 depending on who belive when he finally got a crack at the world title after hooking up with Jack ''Doc'' Kearns and took just a small sum of money for the bout.

Moore defeated then champion Joey Maxim over 15 rounds.

It should of come much sooner do, Moore was just one of many fighters that was deined a chance at a world title due to being to good for his own good.

He made 11 defences of his LHW crown and held on to it for 8 years and never lost it in the ring. He once had a 55 fight spell, were the only fighters to beat him were Heavyweights Rocky Marciano and Floyd Patterson. Moore's longevity in boxing is incredible.

Old Archie was also quite the chracater. He loved food and was a huge eater. Often while doing his roadwork stopping off at the donut shop. He also had numerous wife's but counted his last wife as his only real one.

When cutting weight he also would just chew the food but not swollow it. A tip he found on his travels from a skinny person.

There's quite a lot of footage of Archie Moore actually. A lot of it is rare stuff though but here's a highlight I've made of him:

Great fight. This is why this forum is crap do. This thread only has like 2 replies. Due to the fact that it dosent invovle Manny or Mayweather or Steroids.......

More people need to talk and learn anout boxing history. It will make this a much better forum imo.

Lol! You mean you don't like talking about who's got better PPV numbers?

Gotta pick Bhop, but I heard AM was a beast. Old dudes got to see all the best fights/fighters. Sucks.
