Great point; never actually thought of it in terms of averages. Based on studies on human biology found on www.sciencedirect.com and www.pubmed.gov the average height of an adult man is about 5'6" - 5'9". The average weight of an adult male is 168–180 lbs. Given that boxers are athletes who train for minimum weight/maximum power, it seems logical that welter to middleweight would have the glut of participants/competitors and by extention more talent.

A propos of the info about the average man size, I recall reading, oh, 50 years or more ago that the average French soldier of Napoleon was about 5'2". Basically midgets, and they conquered the whole of Europe, even when the major powers were allied against them

I suggest that welterweight is the best divion in boxing mainly because the average man size is in that category, making probably more welterweight boxers than any other weight division.

If someone actually has the figures, it would be interesting to see.

So are they saying that Pacquiao-Floyd isn't for the lineal title. Good. It shouldn't be even though Floyd is #3 on Ring's rankings. I don't know what Ring's position is on it though. And neither Pacquiao or Floyd should be ranked over Mosley until they beat him.

Highly unlikely. #1 vs. #3 almost never results in a new Ring champion. Their rule is that it is only considered in exceptional circumstances, and Wlad-Chagaev is the only exception I can think of. If Mosley and Pacquiao were brothers then there'd be a case for it, but they aren't.
