I think it's about the boxer. The type of boxer they are is part of it to. Someone like Gatti(RIP) got hit a lot. That could have very well affected him later in life.
Someone like Mayweather will not have any problems from boxing.
So I guess I do believe it comes down to being hit in the head over and over. There proving this with the NFL concussion studies. Im gonna go out on a limb and say being blatantly punched in the head over and over is worse then a football game, or two, or three, ec...
How do you know that? Hopefully he'll be OK but none of us know what a 40+ Floyd going to be like. He's been boxing since he was 4 years old. He had about 100 amateur fights 10000+ sparring rounds..etcComment

preliminary findings suggest that possession of an APOE 4 allele may be associated with increased severity of chronic neurologic deficits in high-exposure boxers

Clinical and morphological publications have shown convincingly, that participation in boxing leads to a severe permanent brain damage. The extent of the brain damage is correlated to the number of bouts fought

That's true. You never know. My point was he doesnt get hit in the head as much, because I think the number of punches guys are taking has something to do with it.Comment

its just like everything else, it has to do with a persons genetics and the damage taken i think. from being around boxing gyms all my life and seeing countless boxers and people tring to box that some people can take more punisment then others without adverse affect "survival of the fittest". i knew some people that were boxing for less then a year and they showed very alarming visable signs of brain damage, and some people were boxing for decades and never showed any signs. of course every boxer am or pro is going to have some form of brain damage, this is the "killing" sport, it just goes with the job. ive had over 200 am fights and first started boxing when i was 7, do i have brain damage? Yes. How bad? dont know now ask me in 10 more years and if i can answer than its not too bad!Comment
