I've noticed that most boxers come from humble beginnings!! Is it feasible for people from wealthier families to excel as boxers, or do you think a boxer can only get that mental edge and toughness required to excel via a poor upbringing?
Middle to Upper Class Upbringing Boxers?

Barrera was never poor, his parents are both doctors or something like that, anyway he wasn't brought up poor. Fighters do seem to come more often from bad situations, i guess its because of necessity. Anyone can develope that mental toughness though -
Why would a rich kid take up a sport where he gets beaten about the head when daddy can afford golf clubs and a country club membership, or membership in an exclusive tennis club, or enough money for all kinds of baseball gear, private coaches, etc.?Comment

People from weathier backgrounds? Not sure.
Middle class...absolutley. Fernando Vargas, PBF (though he tries to act like a thug), RJJ, Arturo Gatti...there are many more. They all came from middle class backgrounds. They didn't struggle through life and certainly didn't have to box.
There are alot of reasons to box. Many forget that this is a sport that requires a high level of discipline. It takes all sorts. Its not something most "tough guys/hoods/thugs" can just take up because they feel they are tough.Comment

De la hoya is a ***** out of the ring but an animal inside.
Willie-Arturo and his brother lived in a dumpy ass apartment in NJ to fight and ate bread crumbs. They were broke at home and own their own.Comment

I think Dana Rosenblatt came from a pretty good upbringing. Maybe it was that snotiness that made me enjoy seeing him get KTFOComment
