Any Word On Location For Dirrell-Abraham?

I heard there were a couple venues in the running, I don't see anything specific on boxrec...

Since Dirrell is from Flint he obviously won't be fighting at home. I heard Atlantic City and New York are possibilities?

lol. I haven't heard anything yet. Sorry that I'm no help, but at least I'm replying. To be honest I didn't even hear when the fight is supposed to be.

I remember there being some articles here on BS that said that The Theater at MSG (Wamu, correct?) was being discussed or is the leading candidate.

It would seem to make the most sense as Dirrell probably isn't popular enough at home and there isn't a venue in Michigan that has hosted a Title Fight in quite a long time.

He will obviously want to keep it regional and NYC, Atlantic City or Chicago are the only places that make sense in that regard.

I would love to see it at Joe Louis Arena for so many reasons but I think that's wishful thinking.

A venue like the Wamu should be good. I think it holds around 5,000-6,000, so if Dirrell-Abraham can sell it out, it's a success IMO.

The Joe? That'd be tough to fill IMO. Dirrell has just started coming to the forefront of the boxing community, and I think in order to get the Joe Louis Arena, he'd have to be a crossover star or have a huge following in Michigan.

I think Dirrell-Abraham could draw similar numbers to the Ward fight in which case they could do the Joe and just black out the upper deck.

There are also about 40,000 Armenians in Metro Detroit.

40,000, that's quite a few. Perhaps they could pull something off.

However, do you think Sauerland would be willing to let Abraham fight Dirrell in Michigan? Wilfred said he wouldn't let him fight Ward in California now, so perhaps he'd be weary of matching him against Dirrell in his home state....?

The poster Tom Tocca is close to the Abraham camp. Maybe he could shed some light on this.
