Ring of Fire: The Emile Griffith Story

I just wanted to start a thread to follow up on this documentary I was talking about a few weeks back. I saw one of the trailers/commercials recently and thought that I'd share it w/ you guys.

    trailer here

what do you guys think?? i just hope that they don't sensationalize the story too much.

Ok, I'm going to admit this, but I'm probably making a mistake:

When I read the thread title, I thought it was off-topic, and possibly about a vulcanologist who'd recently contributed something of fair importance to the science.

    Doh!

        I saw a piece on lastnight's Dateline(closest thing to boxing)and
they showed clips of the actual fight between Emile Griffith and Benny 'kid' Paret. Griffith caught Paret on the ropes in the 12th round and literally beat the life out of him before the referee stopped it. Griffith was just going for the knockout but the referee should have stopped the bout way earlier. The fight was televised and Paret fell into a coma dying 10 days later. It was a tragic story but I'm looking forward to watching the documentary which I think airs april 30 on USA.

Yeah, this seems to be getting quite a bit of press recently -- a great article in SI featured on the cover this month and some stuff in Page 6.

I missed the dateline thingie -- wish i would have known about it. ::sigh::

and Ring of Fire premieres April 20th, not the 30th. So, its not too far away.

you'd pick golf over emile griffith?? that hurts.

but seriously, if you're still interested, they'll prob be like 800 repeats on tv
