I've been highly critical of Ward in the past because I just didn't think he had the fighter in him. I didn't even think he was going to win tonight. I've always been aware of his physical tools, but was never sold on his ability to stay in there during crunch time and perform. Tonights performance was brilliant and left my wife and I in awe of his speed.
What impressed me most though and what made me a fan?
He didn't just try to coast to a decision victory. He was in there trying to put Kessler down and out. I loved the way he kept switching stances and gave Mikkel so many different looks he had no idea what to do. Yea, there were headbutts, but guess what, its a fight. Kessler cried like a hoe at the end and made nothing but excuses. Booooooo.
Take your loss like a man and just admit you got outclassed and had no answer for the speed.
I didn't even think he could win against Kessler, much less the whole tourny.
My mind has been changed and I think he has an excellent chance now.
Should he win it all, a move up and a fight with Chad Dawson should he remain unbeaten.
