Cotto looked awfull

I noticed in the early rounds that Cotto didn't like to get hit in the midsection and Manny landed a number of strong punches in there. Manny only had to faint a shot to the belly for Cotto to lower his guard and leave his head exposed. He got really confused with Manny's pressure who was mixing up his targets and raining combos from unorthodox angles, and then jumping out quickly to reset and avoid counters. Manny was just too agile and active opponent for him.
What was more demoralizing for Cotto is that Manny could take his bombs. You know Manny would have his way once you see him walking through the best that Cotto could dish out.Comment

cotto was cherrypicked! we all knew he was a punching bag. we all knew he was a frontrunner. we all knew he was a bleeder. we all knew he has only 2 gears, 1st & Reverse. its just that the majority of the novices on this forum spend 90% of their time sack swinging instead of of real fight analysis.Comment

Miguel had planned to assert physical dominance on Pac. That was all he trained for.Comment

Great, now these morons are gonna be here even longer, thanks alot Miguel
But that was the weirdest fight I have ever seen from a fighter as good as Cotto. Miguels face was swollen before round 3, he was tired by round 5, and he never made any adjustments like you saw Marquez make.
I think Miguel's intelligence in the ring is probably over-rated. His natural selection of punches got him where he is because his shots are short, quick, and hard and he always made contact. But at no point did he try to get around Manny's right hook or jab, Miguel just freaked out and rushed forward and ate punches like he was stuffin his face with giant red apples that were taped to the end of Manny's fist lol. As for him bein gassed by round 5, I think that was due to the weight, but it wouldn't even matter, Cotto had no answers. It was like Miguel didn't even train for Manny at all, it was like Cotto just got in shape, only to try and improvise his way in the ring. The little success Cotto had coming over the top of Manny's punches, and countering occasionally was there, but he was too busy getting his ass kicked to even realize what was working. And that was only in round 2 and 3 anyway. The fact Manny was just throwing lead lefts without even trying and landing by round 4 and 5 was just pathetic. Cotto was a straight punching bag and that's it.
Anyways, between the Mosley fight which was a brutal war, the Marg fight, and now this...Cotto's gonna fade to black I think. But at the same time 147 is pretty much open game now, so he might be able to make some moves. But it's crazy to see a guy as skilled as Cotto waist that talent by fighting in a big fight, the way he just fought. Just coming forward and eating shots. I'm starting to notice that alot in the sport now, guys who can fight, but all it takes is a lack of preperation and 'just like that' the dude is no more than a target, no matter how good his physical attributes are in the ring.
For someone who's using the word moron freely, you should try to learn to spell the words "awfull" and "preperation" correctly and when to use the word "waist" in a sentence...Last edited by gopi11; 11-22-2009, 05:19 AM.Comment

Cotto kept saying that he would be the stronger man. That was his only plan. When the fight developed, and Cotto found that Manny could punch (and take his punch), Cotto had nothing else.

I dont have a bad word to say about cotto but when the fight was made i said Manny would make it look more easy than it look because (1) The speed difference is too much (2) Cotto doesnt have the ring generalship of JMM to trouble Pac (3) Cotto has been in too many wars in his last 4 fights compare to Pac who was fresh in his last 4 fights.Comment

Miguel went slugging it out with Pacquiao and the difference was is that he got caught. Unlike when fighting with Shane Mosley, Mosley long reach made lots of his punches land behind Cotto rather than right on his chin. Manny has short arms which ended right on Cottos chin. Cotto can't fight him from far or he won't reach, because he has a short reach and that reach is exactly egual to Mannys what makes Manny punches be right on target.
Pacquiao, because of his height would stand up straight and look directly where he wants to land his punch, while Cotto bends his head which prevents him to eye his target as good as Manny. So in the exchange of punches Cotto was missing while Manny landed. Cotto had to take the fight in the inside and tried to bully pacquiao. He gave mannny to much space and had to do a lot more jabbing than hooks, because he can't out work Manny Pacquiao. Cotto had to forget about winning the rounds and more about winning the fight by Knockout. Manny was very hurt considering that cotto work was only for about 5 rounds. If Cotto would've done some more damage for 4 more rounds he would've probally got to him. Again Manny was hurt badly in only a few rounds, but Cotto has to box him all the way. He has a good jab, but he relied on hooks. Cotto had to use also the straight right hand, because again Manny and him have the same reach which is 67. To avoid Mannys hook Cotto had to Jab, land straigh rights hands or jab with the right. But Cotto must pace himself so he doesn't fatigue. when he tired he starts backing off because he doesn't have enough to energy to fight for the full 3 min. But Cotto can no longer take much hard punches, so he has to depend on more defense, but without relying on backing off, because that only wears him down faster.Comment
