age doesnt have anything to do with prime, everybody peaks at different times. Joe Calzaghe was prime or pretty damn close to it.... however Jones was shot, everybody knew this before the fight. He had been KTFO twice 4 years earlier and hadn't beaten a respectable opponent since. He really wasn't the same after he had came back down to light heavy from the ruiz fight.

without the wins over hopkins and jones, Calzaghe really aint that much better than zsolt erdei or sven ottke. the fact is that hopkins was 44 years old and past it yet he still arguably won the fight and roy jones was shot and 40 years old.

and btw Calzaghe couldnt knock out my dead grandma with his pitty pat slaps. that is not punching it is slapping. Holly Holm the female welterweight champion probably punches harder than slappy joe.

Without the blown ups Hopkins resume isnt much better. His best win would be 13 losses Johnson or maybe the legendary Mercado. He will defintaely be a atg with his win over Ornelias thats for sure.

I have always been a big calzaghe fan from the beggining but its the classic senario, better fighter, worse resume Im afraid. Calzaghe fought too many tomatoe cans in his prime a bit like roy jones. but that was roys choice! Calzaghe was avoided like the plague and had no choice but to keep busy!!!! better fighter! worst resume!!! CALZAGHE!!!
