Ward: Kessler ain't prepared for me!

To ekstrabladet.dk André Ward tells of his confidence in beating champion Mikkel Kessler for WBA title. Ward says:

"I know it won't be easy, but I'm determined. I'm ready to do what it takes to win. I'm 25 and my strength, power and endurrance has never been better and I'm gonna need that."

Furthermore Ward believes that Kessler's mental attitude towards this fight is wrong:

"I know how his people talks about this fight. They don't think I can beat him. He doesn't understand. He ain't ready to take what's coming!"

So Ward believes Kessler underestimates him which is denied from the danish camp: "I take him very serious. He's one of the best boxers in the tournament", Kessler says, "And I'm going to kick his ass!"

Kessler said "ass"? Doesn't sound like him, he's too nice to use that kind of language.

Bat, I don't know if you saw my post in the other thread, but it seems that Ward's plan is to box from long range and to 'fight' Kessler, and to keep a high tempo.

It appears they've studied the Calzaghe fight a lot.

wards only chance of winning was if kesslers team undrestimated him, doesn't look like that happened so now ward is truely ****ed.

Perhaps a better translation of Kessler's word is "I'm going to give him a spanking."

I didn't see your post shadows. IMO Ward needs to give Kess angles and spoil by clinching and holding. That should be the lesson from the Calzaghe fight. The way I see it a battle at long range most be to Kessler's advantage with that piston-like jab of his.

              That sounds more like Kessler.

Well, when they say 'fight' I assume they mean to get low under Kessler's punches, and go to work on the inside. He runs the risk of getting hit with an uppercut, however.

I think Ward may fight southpaw a lot from the outside. Kessler's jab wasn't as effective against Calzaghe (and other southpaws), who also showed a lot of weird angles. Ward will probably land his shots, and either clinch or slip of to the side, so Kessler one be able to return fire.

Going southpaw wont cut it IMO. He really isn't that effective as a leftie and Kessler has vast experience fighting southpaws latest against Perdomo. Ward would bear the risk of walking into Kessler's heavy right that way, so I would think that he stays orthodox.

If he goes from orthodox to southpaw he'll go from vertical to horizontal.
