Cotto is done. Fight the IBF guy at WW. Good gauge fight for him now. If he can win and look good, maybe try for sumthin else. I don't see him beatin top guys anymore.

i gotta disagree bro... with a new trainer he can still salvage a couple more years... as is, any tough-as-nails pressure fighter can beat him.

Precisely. So if he still has a passion for the sport and still wants to fight, he should step it down a notch and fight "B" level fighters. Sure his paydays won't be as big, but at least he won't disgrace himself and retire with a decent record. Same thing goes for the fallen who still want to fight. However, i think boxers who are completely shot mentally, a.k.a. JT should retire all together. Just train.

Unless Cotto was well prepared. But i personally think he was in tip top shape when he went up against Paco.

Does Cotto have the resume to be proclaimed as an "A" class fighter? I have my doubts.

I think he can still rebuild. This game is all about second chances. He can catch a few easy ones, ya know, get paid. All it takes is one impressive fight. I've always thought he was an "A" fighter, but i dunno about elite. He's definitely not a super fighter.

He can beat a lot of guys in 147 and win another belt but he ain't beating anybody on the elite level - especially this post Margarito version of Cotto.

When Cotto has stepped up to the 'P4P' guys, he has won once and lost twice. That Mosley fight was close IMO, and it wasn't even the best version of Mosley either.

Cotto's legit, but he's not as good as a lot of people on here make him out to be.

Take Cotto for example. Cotto was on his way up the ladder before he met Margarito. We all know that. He retained the WBO belt after fighting Sugar Shane Mosley, and Knocked Zab Judah for his resume. After the mental and physical beat down from Margarito, Cotto started to rebuild himself again. He fought Michael Jennings, who was a champion in the UK. Then went up against Joshua Clottey in a controversial decision. In both fights he sustained two deep cuts.

I think Cotto should have met with someone in the same class as Clottey, before stepping it up again. He was fresh meat for Pacquiao. Cotto gave Pacquiao too much respect. Aside from the critics, i think Cotto did his best surviving against Pacquiao. I mean, Pacquiao's decent, but i think Cotto should have had one or two more fights before stepping in the ring with "The Destroyer."

I like Cotto; I'd call myself a fan. I enjoy his style and his professionalism. i just hope it won't be too hard for Miguel to get back in the ring.
I agree with you. Cotto made some mistakes. After jennings he should've fought berto instead of clottey. Clottey makes EVERYONE look bad. Cotto should've fought jennings and then berto and then pacquiao. I think Cotto would've been in better shape and hopefully with different trainer. Cotto changed his strategy after knockdown and that's when it went downhill and his corner did not help him.

He needed to fight Pacquiao the same way he fought Mosley and he did not. Cotto knows it and when i saw fight again, my son and I looked at each other and asked why is cotto not jabbing anymore???? Cotto might've still lost fight but to a decision, not a beatdown. Cotto did the same thing hatton did. Cotto needs to look at tape of fight, get rid of santiago(as trainer) and take 7-8 months off. Cotto will have the belt again, he is too good, just fought sloppy and you cannot do that with manny.

Cotto will be back for fight in NYC around PR parade and a title fight in december of 2010.

They said the same thing about a whole bunch of great boxers after 1-2 loses/beatdowns and those boxers came back. Trust me, he is wearing someone's belt in december 2010. Whether it's the WBA, WBC OR IBF, cotto is taking one of those belts. If i'm wrong, i'm wrong, not sweating it.
