    Hearns Career vs Cotto Career?

When I go and research TOP welterweights of all-time, the name of Tommy Hearns(61-5-1-48ko's) always shows up, along with Duran and Leonard. I'm lucky that I saw those fighters fight. Hearns got destroyed by Hagler, yet is still considered one of the best welterweights ever. Hearns fought everyone. Why does Cotto(34-2-0-27ko's) get slammed soooo much and i see the similarities in both fighters. They both got beat by an ATG.Hearns by Hagler and Cotto by Pacquiao. They both NEVER avoided the best and at one point in their careers they were nasty.

Is it Cotto haters? Idiots? Thomas Hearns lost bad to Hagler in their Mega-fight and yet came back to finish his career strong. He first lost to Sugar Ray Leonard and then to Hagler but not many wrote him off. Cotto loses to Margarito and is written off. He comes back to fight a dangerous fighter in Clottey WINS and then loses to Pacquiao(ATG). I UNDERSTAND HE might never beat pacquiao, but c'mon look at the rest of the division and title holders.

I agree with you. The loss to Margarito has a big ? over it because of the real chance of plaster wraps. If you look at the way Manny beat Hatton and DLH Cotto compares favorably to them. If Manny beats Mayweather and he is the only fighter I can see pulling it off he will be viewed as absolute top dog so a late round stoppage to him is no disgrace at all. Cotto could do with a couple of Jennings type build up fights and build his confidence up and get going again. After Manny /Mayweather happens Cotto could see himself right at the top again as I expect Manny to retire then. Cotto would beat pretty well all the fighters out there with the exception of Mayweather and Manny.

Cotto is a cool guy and his resume at ww is amazing. I dont understand why people feel the need to knock him, hopefully he will come back better than before.

Hearns fought Hagler MW not WW. His loss to SRL was also a close fight (unlike Cotto vs Pac) and would have won if he didn't gas right at the end.

back then was very different compared to today, you had to be good to be a champion, unlike today, + cotto didnt fight sugaer ray leonard, duran, pipino quevez, hagler, wilfred benitez etc etc

How would COTTO'S career be viewed if he beats winner of Berto vs Mosley? He will already have beaten Mosley twice, clottey and lost to Pacquiao and a boxer who was caught cheating in ANOTHER fight.
