Pacquiao vs. Morales: "The PPV Controversy"

The swirling controversy over the non-payment of Manny Pacquiao’s alleged 40 percent share of pay-per-view rights for the showdown against Erik “El Terrible” Morales has been stirred by some sectors who don’t know the facts or haven’t a clue about how PPV deals work and others who merely ride on what is fashionable in the Philippines in an effort to win friends and hopefully influence people. It's not just about the PPV money, I think it's also about PAC's IRS problem with his taxes, I mean Murad should have taken care of his fighter, I think that is why Freddie Roach was reacting so much on Murad. I mean Roach as a boxer and a trainer knows a little of this types. Plus what the hell does PAC know about this, it's also Rod NAzarios fault he did not look after PAC, he was also interested in the Money. It's very sad because after what PAC did to the Philippines, he is just being left alone in the dark and instead of filipinos helping him understand some things they all BAD MOUTH him as if everything he is now he owes it to some **** ass journalist who now bad mouths him. I mean PAC was the greatest thing that ever happened to the Philippines and here he is now fighting a losing battle and he is again in the jaw of another foreign manager whom he does not know. Nobody is helping him out. I know Murad took him to where he is right now, but that does not mean you can rip him off and suck him dry. I hope PAC gets a real friend who can help him, it does not matter wether he is a filipino or what. as long as he can help him. I hope PAC gets his green card and he becomes an american because he does not deserve to be in this god forsaken country who has the worst mentality in the whole world. They just could not leave PAC alone, they always look at PAC's downside instead of helping him out so PAC does not end up a broke boxer, like espinosa, or Navarette and many more. I mean this guy could change the boxing destiny of the philippines, but people keep on taking him down instead of supporting him. I even read a column about how PAC should grow up since he stood up a respected figure for an interview. I mean he does not belong to the public, give him his space and give him his time back. They of all people should understand that, coz they are the ones with a higher education, instead of them saying bad things about pac that as if they did somthing good for the philippines. Fact is nobody today ever did somthing great for the philippines except for PAC, and rosales and delasin. they showed that Pinoys can be competitive specially PAC, who rose from nowhere to somwhere, and all we do is bad mouth him. Even Ninoy Aquino could not beat what PAC has done. I can tell you that. Fact is nobody knows where we could be right now if Marcos would still be president, it can't be worst than what we are now. But what PAC did, it is somthing to be proud of and it is somthing that only heroes that are blessed by god can only do.

      This is bull****.

After the Marquez fight, Manny's stock rose even more. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to know that pitting him against Morales would be PPV material. Marquez-Pacquiao 1 didn't have high numbers because it lacked any previous exposure to build on. Pacquiao was just bursting into the scene and Marquez wasn't a draw unlike his two mexican compatriots. In fact,I would say that the Pacquiao bout was his career defining fight. The supposed rematch could have easily been bankable seeing as the first fight was a fight of the year candidate not to mention a championship bout for two sanctioning bodies.

But a Morales-Pacquiao? That's a given PPV, something that goes without saying. G-U-A-R-A-N-T-E-E-D, specially after the Marquez draw. Any braindead promoter could have seen this. Arum said "he took a chance". Why do you think he took this "chance"? Because he KNEW that this fight would sell easy. He's been in business for too long not to have known. He knows what fans want to see and which fights would make money. He wouldn't be where he is today if he didn't.

Murad is entitled to his share of course but if Arum was the lead promoter, what exactly did Murad do that gave him the right to earn more than the fighter he represented? If there was no agreement on Manny getting PPV shares, where was the agreement on Murad getting that big of a chunk?

Bottom line is that Manny got screwed. He worked, sweat, and bled for a piece of PPV earnings and he didn't get his due. Murad knew that a Morales fight would be a PPV but purposely omitted it out of the contract for his own selfish reasons. But no matter. You can only milk someone for so long before they kick you back in the nutz. He'll get the well deserved boot after the contract expires.

When a cynical promoter who runs his mouth gets more than the fighter who risks his life in the ring, we got ourselves a big problem.

By the way, why is Ronnie N. defending Murad like he was his first born son? So much commitment towards a crooked promoter...what's the catch? Spite? Envy? What else?

[QUOTE= RONNIE NATHANIELZ]The reasons for this were:

        1. The Pacquiao fight against Marquez in May 2004 failed to reach 4.0 percent in terms of ratings which was below the benchmark of 5.0 percent set by HBO for its fights.[/QOUTE]

i don't like to react negatively about this but i think this is dumb. Pacquiao then was still up and coming (until now actually), and he was fighting a not-so-stellar fighter in Marquez... what were you expecting??? reach a barrera-morales type rating??? there was not much hype involved in that fight so the rating wasn't really that surprising... but putting in morales in place for marquez was a different issue... morales was a proven PPV fighter and with all the hype on Pacquiao, it is elementary to assume that it was going to be a blockbuster PPV hit... with this explanation, i assume that you are also downplaying the PPV possibilities of pacquiao-marquez 2, if ever it takes place??? people do not need some boxing expert to figure out if a fight is going to be a hit or not... it is just dumb to think that way...

how much percent did MURAD really get ???

If he got 40%, I really hope PAC could get a share out of this and we are all banking on the untested MUHAMMAD ALI ACT...

Ronnie can say whatever he wants to say but if it is true that murad got more money from the fight than manny and that the controversy about non payment of tax is also true, then ronnie is doing a damage control that we pacfans will find impossible to believe. Ronnie, tell that to the marines!!!!
