The thing that makes it so weird is that its probably the #1 thing that everyone said made him so difficult to beat. Head movement. I guess he still moves his head now but he moves it like normal guys do. Before, he use to move it non stop, rocking back & forths almost like Tyson. No one has talked about this. I wonder why the change. I rewatched I think the JMM fight and Pac was like a bobble head all night. Now if you watch him, e****aly against Cotto, he's much more traditional with his head movement. Do you think thats good or bad? Obviously he hasnt lost recently and is getting better so it must be good but why do you think Roach had him change. Did he think all the movement would tire the body out, did he think that accurate guys with good timing would time his movement & catch him, did he think that its hard to have a great all around Offense while moving so much or what
One Big Change About Pac Have You Noticed?

Dude does better body work nowadays. Even tho he threw combos before, he focused on head shots most of the time. Now he mixes up his flurries a lot more and digs in good shots downstairs. He's become a boxer-puncher instead of a pure slugger. -
Balance as well, his balance is much, much better now compared to a few years ago, no way would he have been able to throw 10 punch combinations while turning while putting power behind his shots a couple of years ago.Comment

I think there are 3 main reasons for the change. The thing that makes it so weird is that its probably the #1 thing that everyone said made him so difficult to beat. Head movement. I guess he still moves his head now but he moves it like normal guys do. Before, he use to move it non stop, rocking back & forths almost like Tyson. No one has talked about this. 1) With all the new things Pac is always trying to add to his arsenal less head movement would be 1 less thing to worry about.
2) It's definitely helped his footwork and balance. He doesnt get caught in all sorts of weird positions or overextend on his punches anymore.
3)The inconsistency is what makes his speed so deadly now. He looks like just there with his feet planted, no head movement and is a sitting duck to be hit. But then is able to shoot in or out like bolts of lightning. As opposed to something that's just always in motion and can be timed like a pendulum on his swing back.Comment

thats whats buboy was telling before the fight when he said they know what team cotto saw and what theyre thinking and that they have corrected the errors the other team was seeing, cotto came to the fight with the thought that he will time pacquiao out..
anyways imo it must have been due to the added weight, i think pacman slowed down, he must have been chomping the whole day prior to the fight. btw, anybody here have info about the weight on fight night, i must have missed it on the board.Comment

I noticed it too. His head movements are as frequent as before, but his power and chin has increased dramatically. Pretty impressive.Comment

head movement slowed down..but that might have been a tactic to entice Cotto to engage a relatively stationary target.
Whereas...if Pac was bouncing every which way... Cotto would have probably tried to box more. And Cotto boxing= bad for their game plan. They wanted to get Cotto to lunge forward and engage, so Pac could catch him with his faster handspeed/better combinations.
I have no doubt the head movement will return, and other elements as well, when he fights Mayweather.
Roach apparently already has a rough game plan for that fight mapped out. Roach is already talking about how they would have to train extra long to prepare for Floyd's style
...so much for it being an easier fight than Cotto, eh Roach?...Comment

Yeah, I agree with the post above. He needs utilize his speed and punching power in order to gain the upper hand on Mayweather. His defense needs to improve as well. I think strategically, body shots would be key in allowing Floyd to lower his guard. But you never know...these fighters have the ability to switch styles during the fight.Comment

Both.
Moving it side to side constantly means he's in more of a predictable rhythm and can be timed. Think of drums. Just about anyone in the world can follow a 4/4 rhythm. 90% of modern music is made up of it. Now think of a beat such as 21/16, or 13/9. You don't even know what a 21/16 rhythm is, I'll bet? It's very hard to follow and predict.
Constant movement is also a waste of energy.
But moving the head less is not a good thing.
Moving at exactly the right time is the key, if you can get it right.
At least, that's my take on it. Drumming and boxing has many parallels.
