Anchondo loses his WBO title on the scales!

April 07, 2005 - Get ready to start calling "Mighty" Mike Anchondo a former champion! Moments ago Anchondo was unable to make the junior lightweight limit of 130 pounds. Anchondo tipped the scales at 134 1/2 pounds and will not even attempt to shed nearly five pounds over the next few hours. Title challenger Jorge Barrios weighed in at 128. Barrios will move forward with the fight and of course, he'd still be able to become WBO junior lightweight champion should he defeat Anchondo.

Assuming he makes the weight, and the fight is re-scheduled

Anchondo is going to destroy Barrios IMO. He is merely a stepping stone for Mike, who does have some flaws. He is succeptable to a decent body attack, yet Barrios is not that kind of fighter. He Loads upstairs, then downstairs. Throws chopping shots, but Mike has Way too much power for him. I think the fight will end in an early K.O. for Anchondo. He will simply break Barrios' will, despite his toughness and resilliancy.

Mike needs to lay off the "Twix-Bars" For sure.

Wait a minute, so if he can't make weight the day before, does he still get the belt even if he wins tomorrow night. Or win or lose, Barrios gets the belt? Enlighten me guys.

I believe he cant officially defend the belt since he cant make division weight the belt goes vacant,

And Barrios being a valid wbo contender can fight for the vacant WBO belt.

If Anchondo wins the Belt remains vacant because he failed his obligation to officially defend..

            I might be wrong though.

It means even if Anchondo wins he won't be champion anymore but if Barrios wins he will become the new champion.

Damn, that's too bad because Anchondo wan planning on fighting Jose Miguel Cotto in the near future to give him a shot at the belt. I hope that, no matter what happens, Cotto is allowed to fight for the belt in the next fight. He's the #1 contender right now, too. So, if Barrios loses, Cotto will get to fight for the vacant title. If Barrios wins, Cotto might not get to fight Barrios for a while.

                  Go Anchondo!
