..SERGIO MARTINEZ: Was Robbed Three Times, Now Fights Williams...

I'm a big fan of Sergio Martinez. I had heard whispers of him before Bunema, but they turned into screams after that fight. I remember I picked Bunema to win, due to my lack of knowledge of Sergio at that time and I was so happy that Martinez was so skilled, I didn't even care that I got it wrong.

So, what saddened me was that his next big fight took a while to make. Forrest discussions, then Williams talk, then Forrest, then Forrest passes away. It was getting pretty damn out of hand. (No disrespect to Forrest dying, I meant the other aspects, obviously.)

Then, FINALLY, the Cintron fight comes up. I'll admit, in the beginning, it didn't look like it'd be another incredible showing by any means. Wasn't as bad as the fans were making it out to be, but it wasn't Gatti-Ward, either.

Then, the first robbery happens. He cracks Cintron with a shot so hard that it either tricks Cintron or Cintron weasels out of. Realistically, if he was so hur tthat he didn't know what hit him, the fight should have been stopped. And if he knew and was lying, then he's a ****head and deserves to have lost the fight.

    Robbery.

Then, he continues to win the fight, sweeping about 5 rounds in the middle and taking 3 out of the last 4 or 5 as well. But, during I believe the 11th round, he gets a point taken away for hitting behind the head. When, in all reality, Cintron had been ducking all the way over like an ******* and then complaining about what obviously is bound to happen in those situations. This point makes the fight even on two cards, and Martinez loses out on a decision in a fight that he should have probably won by stoppage.

    Robbery 2.

However, none of this should have mattered to begin with. The scorecards should have never of been that close to begin with. The fact that two judges only had him winning one more round than Cintron did is ridiculous to begin with.

    Robbery 3.

I'm sure you all know this, but the reason I point this out is because the guy is still fighting the toughest opponents. Bunema was atleast tough at some point. Cintron was tougher. And in or around 154, Williams might be the toughest task.

Like it or not, Sergio Martinez deserves a lot of credit. I personally think he will prevail and I hope for a good fight.

      Great post.

It's not ****** that you picked Bunema by the way... he had just iced Kamarazin, and Martinez had donut on his resume to prove that he was any good. I had seen him against Russell Jordan, and one of the things that stuck out in my mind is that he got nailed by a jab at the very beginning of the fight. The Bunema fight was a showing that is unrealistic... Martinez isn't as good as Bunema made him look.

I think Martinez has pretty slim chances by the way. I don't even think he is worried about whether he wins or loses. Dibella said that the main thing is that he keeps his 54 title either way, and they didn't put up any fight about the weight. Martinez has had one fight at 60, and it was against a guy with a losing record...

I think this is a payday (like Taylor-Spinks was for Spinks), and then they are moving back down to 154 to do some damage there.

I really want to see him in against Sergei Dzinziruk at 54... what a great fight that would be, that no one would care about in the US...

He had a very long streak going that ended in an unfair draw.

I think Sergio loses to Pwill. At JMW I think he had a better chance. Dunno if the new weight will affect him. But I still see him as the best fighter at 154. I hope he gets a unification fight after Pwill, no matter the outcome. He could beat Dzinziruk, Spinks, and Foreman.

I think he can beat Spinks and Foreman...

Dzinziruk takes him down man... too technical. I don't think Martinez is the Jones Jr. type of athlete that can beat the type of perfect technique that Dzinziruk has.

Cintron had some early success against him before his punch output dropped off. Dzinziruk doesn't fade to my knowledge.

He was definitely robbed when he fought Cintron. He made Cintron look like a bum and what pissed me off is that at the end Cintron was acting like he was mad that the judge gave him a draw.

These judges outta be ashamed of themselves. I hate to see what boxing is coming down to.

Martinez is not a small 154 lber. He had a fight scheduled at 157-158 earlier that got canceled because of the broken down Diaz-Malinaggi rematch negotiations that got resurrected later. If Paul Williams beats him he should get credit.
