Joe Santiago wanted to stop the fight in the 9th

Since the ninth assault, trainer of Miguel Cotto, Joe Santiago, had the intention of stopping the fight with Manny Pacquiao at the punishment he had received the boricua.

However, Santiago conceded that the final decision was Cotto and therefore allowed to continue in combat.

"We were outstanding since the ninth. I asked another assault and responded very well in the assault ten, "Santiago said yesterday after returning to the Island

"In the eleven reached the sidewalk and said, 'Well, I think this is over'. He said, 'Let me finish. Trust me '. I let him finish and was the referee who stopped her. That was all, "added Santiago, who, however, considered that the officer Kenny Bayless did well to stop it.

Meanwhile, Santiago said he was surprised by the strength that Pacquiao took the impact, both in its strength as its stuck, preventing develop its fight Cotto.

"The instructions were as seen in the first assault. If failed, failed. We came out very strong ... Not a bad night, "said Santiago.

Asked about whether Cotto should retire, he replied: "If I tell you now, would be very premature. We will be meeting, and plans to go see. "

He should have stopped it in the 9th. Poor job on protecting his fighter and his friend.

Its a trainer job to protect his fighter, sometimes the fighter has to much pride to accept defeat as in the case of Bowe/Golota II.

he didn't feel he fully had authority to stop the fight like Emmanuel Stewart said Cotto runs that corner

Evangelista would've stopped it sooner i believe

The fight was a good example of a corner failing to save a fighter from himself.

Gotta love boxing. You lose two fights and you're a wash up. I still like Cotto. He just made like 10 mil. I say fight Marg once more. He might lose but I still want to see it. Cotto needs some rest though, a tune-up, then Marg, then retire. They took alot out of eachother and they both got TKO'd in their last fights. LETS GET IT ON.

A warrior like Cotto will never say the word quit, he would rather go down swinging. "Average" Joe should've impose his will as the head trainer, take the decision out of Cotto's hands and stop the fight after the 9th round ended. Miguel's wife Melissa would've have been a better cornerman for Cotto as she left early just before the 9th round, knowing fully well the dangers and hazards boxing can give to a boxer, Joe almost ended Cotto's boxing career...
