  • How is Floyd going to win with his current style?

    I still question it.
Of course I know I'm some guy behind a computer and don't have the mind of Floyd with boxing...but...what are others seeing that Freddie may be seeing as well?

But how is he going to beat Pac?

I look at what he did against JMM and other fights at 147+ and wonder...so?

JMM is a counter-puncher....not an aggressor. Not even that fast. Style-wise and ability, JMM was never going to beat Floyd no matter what weight-divsion or time off.

Ricky Hatton: Prefers to wrestle than punch...thought he could bully Floyd...and was actually allowed into the fight because Floyd just takes off rounds and wasn't jabbing (let alone throwing enough). Now I understand strategy can be too slowly break down a fighter, let the opponent tire himself out a bit before you up the pace...but when did Floyd do that below 147?

Oscar: Despite not landing as cleanly as some like to think, it was close with the score-cards because Oscar was more active than Floyd. If Floyd would have jabbed, use more combos, moved and hit like he did with Chico...maybe a much easier fight and not close on the score-cards. Although maybe more risk....not sure.

Judah: was in the fight for about half but Judah is also known to sometimes have his problems as the fight goes on.

Mitchell: at 147 but it was also his first fight at 147 and was out to prove he could fight at 147 although we should point out this is the same Mitchell that had moved up to 147 from 140 and was destroyed by Tszyu prior.

Not only do I not see the same Floyd but I haven't been entertained by Floyd since his move up to 147...which is also attributed to his style.

Do you know how much of an excuse you are already giving Floyd.

May the best man win, cut it with these excuses.

He still pot-shots and neglected the jab (except in the JMM fight) compared to his below 147 days.

How is he going to pot-shot someone like Pac?

i think it would have too be floyds best performance (at 147 anyway) too keep manny at bay
the reason i favour him is simply because manny is plenty hittable and floyd just isnt, that said mayweather would have too be more active and wouldnt be able too relax for a second like he seems too do with his previous opponents
style-wise they are both dangerous for each other, but i just cant imagine pacquioa landing enough leather too stop floyd, and too win a decision i think he will have too exceed his own very high standards

Floyd is a master boxer. I wouldn't be surprised if he made Manny look just like Marquez when they fought.

I don't think he can pot shot for 12 rounds and win, he will have to mix it up but he will only do it a handful of times throughout the fight when he feels he has some momentum going.

I definitely thought there were more than a handful of stretches where Cotto was able to handle Pac with a solid jab and nothing else. He was able to push Pac back with it but he wasn't disciplined enough nor was he satisfied to sit back and fight conservative round after round.

Mayweather doesn't care if it is boring, he will do what Cotto did in the 1st round and he will do it all night without ever mixing it up and getting himself caught like Cotto did in the 2nd and 4th rounds.

Benny you have to understand that every fight is different and specificaly, a Southpaw fight is differnt from him fighting a righty. He actually came forward and was very aggressive against both Souhtpaws in Judah & Mitchell and thats how I think he will fight Pac. He also fought Chop the same way. Zab wasnt in the fight for half the fight. He was in it for 4 rounds and never came close to winning another round. It had nothing to do with him fading. It had to do with Floyd figuring out his Southpaw style and once he solves you, its over.

Again, he was very aggressive and walked down all 3 Southpaws. He let his hands go alot but he will let them go more against Pac because Pac will be more aggessive then all 3 of those guys were. Its also much harder to throw combinations against Southpaws but he will at the very least consiistently land a bunch of 1-2's

You know the one thing I was thinking about was actually Douglas-Tyson: Forget the shape Tyson was in and concentrate on Douglas:
He would jab, throw a combo, then jab as he was getting back out of range.

For Floyd, I guess he could...Jab...right-cross, and Jab back out of range as a simple combo.

I just can't see him getting away with pot-shots all night. He'll at least have to throw 1-2 punches and throw more often.
